Summary of Position
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive leader responsible for the organization's financial strength, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO partners with senior leadership, staff, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors to ensure the organization has the financial, human, and technological resources needed to advance its mission.
The CFO provides strategic leadership and oversight for Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology, ensuring alignment with organizational values, priorities, and community impact.

Position requires strong English communication skills and the ability to use a two-way radio, email, and phone. Work hours vary and may include weekends and holidays. Role may involve working near animals. Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

- Serve as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO and executive leadership team
- Act as primary liaison to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement
- Support organizational priorities related to sustainability, education, and community engagement
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and succession planning
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and employment regulations
- Oversee compensation, benefits, wellness, insurance, and risk management programs
- Provide strategic oversight of volunteer and internship programs
- Provide strategic direction for IT infrastructure, systems, and data security
- Ensure technology supports operational efficiency, innovation, and guest experience
- Oversee audio-visual and show technology systems
- Strategic Vision: Ability to align financial, human, and technological resources with long-term goals

- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a closely related field required; MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced credential strongly preferred
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive senior-level financial leadership experience, including oversight of human resources and information technology
- Experience in nonprofit financial management, including budgeting, audits, reporting, and compliance; experience in mission-driven organizations preferred
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing, cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills, including presenting to executive leadership and Boards
- Strong alignment with and commitment to the mission, values, and standards of AZA-accredited zoos, including conservation, education, animal welfare, sustainability, and community engagement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
