TRIO SSS Support Specialist
Basic Function:
To contribute to the goals of the Johnson TRIO SSS Program by providing resource development and general office support
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and implement support services related to basic essentials security for TRIO SSS participants, including assessing student needs, connecting students with on-and off-campus resources(e.g., food pantries, emergency housing, rental assistance, financial assistance, transportation)
- Create, build and support activities and events to encourage and increase TRIO student engagement
- Provide additional support for TRIO program services including, Summer Bridge, new student Intakes, file management and general office support
- Other special projects as requested
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direct supervision is received from the Director of TRIO
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or enrollment in a Bachelor's seeking program
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of community resources and agencies related to a variety of student
- Knowledge of and participation in TRIO programs
- Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of first generation economically and educationally disadvantaged students, particularly in a rural
Skills:
- High level of motivation and self-direction
- Excellent planning and organizational
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication
- Solid MS office skills
- Excellent digital social media skills
Abilities:
- Ability to deal effectively with and serve as a program representative to students, program staff, community agencies, funding agencies, and the like
- Desire to support and enhance the TRIO mission
- Demonstrated positive attitude regarding Vermont State University and a desire to improve student outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives and cultures
