Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and dependable Lead AV Field Technician to take a senior role on our installation crews, supporting AV deployments and UCC rollouts across the country. This is a hands-on technical position ideal for someone who enjoys field work, variety in their day-to-day environment, and the opportunity to travel while working on professional, well-organized project sites.
Travel is a core part of this role. When local jobs are not available, the typical rhythm is flying out Monday morning to the project site and flying back Friday afternoon, which keeps weekends at home protected. All travel expenses and per diem are fully covered.
Key Responsibilities:
The Lead AV Field Technician will perform installation work and lead crews on larger, more complex projects, coordinating and reporting progress to the Project Manager to ensure projects meet time, scope, budget, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Install and configure audiovisual systems including displays, projectors, video walls, audio systems (DSPs, microphones, speakers), and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom Rooms and Microsoft Teams Rooms
- Perform cable pulls, terminations, and testing for low-voltage cabling including Cat6, fiber optic, and HDMI
- Rack fabrication, equipment mounting, and wiring layout
- Read and interpret AV schematics, signal flow diagrams, and architectural blueprints
- Demonstrate job site leadership, mentor junior technicians on site, and verify quality of work across the crew
- Test point-to-point cabling, system functionality, and control and DSP systems, with field loading as needed
- Support engineers and programmers with minor on-site programming adjustments
- Track and secure equipment and tools on the job site
- Communicate daily job site status to the Project Manager and complete required documentation
- Act as the customer liaison on site, directing change requests to the Project Manager for final confirmation
- Coordinate with other trades and perform client training as needed
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in AV installation, low-voltage work, or a closely related field
- Valid and current AVIXA CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification
- Strong working knowledge of commercial AV systems and components
- Proficiency in cable installation, terminations, and basic networking concepts
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings and signal flow diagrams
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior technicians and manage site teams
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Proficient use of hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional AVIXA certifications (CTS-I, CTS-D)
- Experience with UCC platforms including Zoom Rooms and Microsoft Teams Rooms
- Knowledge of AV control systems such as Crestron, Extron, or Q-SYS
- Networking fundamentals including IP addressing, VLANs, and PoE
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course
- Prior site lead or foreman experience
- Formal education in AV, electronics, or a related technical field
