Position Summary
The Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving equipment reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance through structured data analysis, failure investigations, and optimization of maintenance strategies.
This role focuses on identifying chronic equipment issues, eliminating recurring failures, and improving long-term asset performance using proven reliability engineering methodologies and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Reliability Engineering & Failure Analysis
- Conduct Root Cause and Data-Driven Engineering (RCDE) investigations and formal failure analyses.
- Identify chronic equipment issues and develop permanent corrective actions.
- Analyze equipment performance, maintenance history, and downtime events to identify reliability risks.
Maintenance Strategy Optimization
- Define, review, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies based on asset criticality and failure modes.
- Support condition-based maintenance programs using vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and other predictive technologies.
- Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure reliability strategies are executable and sustainable.
Asset Performance & Improvement Planning
- Develop reliability improvement plans for critical and high-risk assets.
- Support Single Point of Failure (SPOF) assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Provide engineering input into maintenance standards and best practices.
Capital Projects & Equipment Upgrades
- Support CAPEX initiatives related to equipment upgrades, redundancy, and reliability improvements.
- Provide technical justification and reliability analysis for equipment replacement or modification projects.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance during equipment installation and commissioning.
Metrics, KPIs & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and track reliability KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, availability, and downtime trends.
- Develop reports and dashboards to support reliability performance reviews.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing unplanned downtime and extending asset life.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related discipline).
- Experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or equipment reliability within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting maintenance, downtime, and performance data.
- Working knowledge of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance practices.
- Ability to lead root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives.
Preferred
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, electrical equipment, or transformer manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with reliability methodologies such as RCM, FMEA, RCDE, or Weibull analysis.
- Experience supporting predictive maintenance technologies (vibration, thermography, oil analysis).
- CMMS experience and working knowledge of reliability KPI reporting.
- Professional certifications (CMRP, CRE, Six Sigma) a plus.
