Position Overview
- We are seeking a hands-on Workshop Specialist to join our Research team at the Boston Technology Center. In this role, you will be integral to daily workshop operations, maintaining our extensive portfolio of advanced fabrication equipment, and supporting groundbreaking research projects. Your primary focus will be on robotics programming, end-of-arm tooling creation, and 3D printing operations, all within a dynamic, collaborative environment.
- This is an on-site position that requires working in-person at our Boston facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Robotics & 3D Printing Support:
- Program and operate industrial robots.
- Design, fabricate, and implement robotic end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
- Enforce and maintain strict robot safety protocols.
- Operate and maintain a variety of 3D printers (polymer and metal).
Workshop Operations:
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a diverse range of shop equipment (CNC mills, lathes, routers, waterjets, lasers, etc.).
- Manage shop materials, including stocking, organization, cleaning, and waste management.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of fabrication processes and workshop safety standards.
Project Collaboration:
- Act as a support technician for Research and Design Engineers.
- Assist residents and research teams with project execution, from design consultation to physical fabrication.
- Innovate, design, and develop new processes, assembly fixtures, and procedures.
Primary Skills & Qualifications
- Proven, hands-on experience with robotics programming and operation.
- Strong practical experience with 3D printing technologies (polymeric and/or metal).
- Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of complex machinery.
- Ability to design and fabricate tooling and fixtures.
- A strong commitment to maintaining a safe workshop environment.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with engineers, researchers, and residents.
- A self-motivated, innovative, and proactive mindset.
Note on Duration & Insurance
- This is a temporary contract position with a defined end date of March 31, 2026, with a strong possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
- Please note that this role is located in a technology workshop and will require a higher level of insurance coverage.
