As the Director of Volunteers, I am thrilled to expand our team to support our critical mission.
The Grant Writer is an essential operational role within our Growth and Development Team. This individual is responsible for identifying corporate foundations, government grants, and community funding opportunities and drafting compelling, persuasive funding proposals. By communicating the profound life shifts veterans experience and demonstrating how project management is a crucial life skill for reintegration, the Grant Writer directly helps secure the financial resources needed to sustain our mentorship and professional development programs.

Key Responsibilities
- Proposal Development Draft, write, and assemble high-quality grant proposals, letters of intent (LOIs), and corporate sponsorship packages.
- Funding Research Collaborate with Grant Researchers to identify and evaluate new foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities that align with VPMMA’s mission and vision.
- Mission Advocacy Articulate VPMMA's historical impact, comprehensive training programs, and unique mentorship models into narratives that resonate deeply with institutional donors.
- Reporting and Compliance Coordinate with the Comptroller and Director of Development to gather financial data and program metrics to satisfy grant reporting requirements.
- Team Collaboration Work dynamically with Grant Editors to refine prose and ensure that all packages meet funder specifications flawlessly before submission.
- Writing & Communication Skills Strong background in grant writing, technical writing, fundraising, or professional communications (experience with nonprofit grant applications is highly preferred).
- Research Abilities Skill in navigating grant databases, analyzing funder guidelines, and matching organizational needs with donor priorities.
- Organizational Skills Excellent time-management skills with a proven ability to meet strict application deadlines.
- Mission Alignment A strong passion for supporting military veterans, service members, and military spouses.
- Technical Proficiency Comfortable utilizing cloud-based collaboration tools, specifically Google Workspace and Shared Drives.
