Summary The Grant Writer for Angel Heart Pajama Project plays a critical role in securing funding to support our mission of providing new pajamas and books to children in crisis. This position is responsible for researching funding opportunities, writing and submitting compelling grant proposals, managing grant reporting requirements, and supporting long-term funder relationships.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, exceptional writer, and detail-oriented professional passionate about serving children and strengthening communities. Key Responsibilities:
Grant Research & Prospecting:
● Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies aligned with the organization’s mission
● Maintain and manage a comprehensive grants calendar and funder’s password list
● Track trends and funding priorities relevant to child welfare, literacy, and community support initiatives Proposal Development & Submission
● Write clear, persuasive, and mission-driven grant proposals and letters of inquiry
● Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to gather program data and outcomes, success stories, testimonials, photos, budgets, IRS 501 c(3) Determination Letter, IRS 990, and Board of Directors list
● Prepare supporting documents including budgets, project narratives, and impact statements
● Ensure timely and accurate submission of all proposals Grant Management & Reporting
● Track proposal submissions, award statuses, and deadlines
● Prepare and submit interim and final grant reports
● Ensure compliance with all grant requirements and maintain accurate grant files
● Monitor funded programs to ensure deliverables and outcomes are documented
Relationship Support:
● Assist in cultivating and stewarding relationships with funders
● Support funder communications, acknowledgments, and impact reporting
● Help identify opportunities for grant renewal and multi-year funding
Qualifications Education & Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
● Minimum of 2 years of grant writing experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization
● Demonstrated success in securing foundation, corporate, or government funding Skills & Competencies ● Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
● Strong research and analytical abilities
● Ability to manage multiple deadlines with attention to detail
● Experience developing program budgets in collaboration with Executive Director
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and grant management systems
● Passion for serving children and advancing nonprofit impact Preferred Qualifications
● Experience with child-focused, literacy, or community-based nonprofit programs
● Familiarity with grant portals and reporting systems
● Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising strategies beyond grants Compensation Options:
● Hourly, $50-$100
● Per Grant Fee, Small local/family foundation $750-$2,000
● Per Grant Fee, Mid-sized foundation, $750-$2,000
