Our alliance is dedicated to fostering the professional development of U.S. military service members, veterans, and their spouses. We accomplish this by offering various membership options, including General Membership for service members, veterans, and their spouses, along with Professional, Corporate, and Nonprofit Partner Memberships for individuals and organizations that wish to engage more deeply with our mission. Our goal is to be the premier resource for this community as they pursue or advance their careers in project management within the civilian workforce.

Our Programs and Services A Holistic Approach

VPMMA offers a wide range of mentorship and development programs, specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of our members. These include

  • Mentorship Programs We provide One-on-One, Group, Reverse, Diversity, and Peer Mentorship to offer tailored guidance and promote collective learning.
  • Professional Development Our offerings include customized training materials, skill-building workshops, learning events (seminars, webinars), advanced training, and certification preparation. We also address personal project management skills and entrepreneurship training.
  • Career Transition Support We offer resources and guidance to members navigating career transitions, including support for resumes, access to job boards, and career transition assistance.
  • Community Building We create professional connections through networking opportunities and collaborative learning events.
  • Financial Support We provide scholarships for industry certifications to encourage ongoing professional development.

Role Overview

The Veteran Project Manager Mentor Alliance (VPMMA) is a $501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and equipping military service members, veterans, and their spouses to achieve greatness in project management careers. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we rely on the expertise of dedicated individuals to advance our mission.

The Grant Editor plays a critical role within our Growth and Development Team. This individual is responsible for reviewing, polishing, and refining grant proposals and corporate sponsorship packages to secure the vital financial resources needed to sustain and expand our veteran mentorship and professional development programs. Working alongside Grant Researchers and Writers, the Grant Editor ensures all external funding requests are highly compelling, technically sound, and perfectly aligned with VPMMA’s core mission and branding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Copyediting & Proofreading Review, edit, and format grant proposals, letters of intent (LOIs), and funding requests drafted by the team to ensure clarity, proper grammar, and a professional tone.
  • Brand & Messaging Alignment Ensure all written materials remain consistent with VPMMA’s established branding, core values, and central mission messaging.
  • Structural & Narrative Enhancement Refine narrative arcs in proposals to effectively articulate the profound life shifts veterans undergo and illustrate how project management is a crucial life skill for their reintegration.
  • Compliance Verification Cross-check compiled grant packages against funder criteria to ensure all specific guidelines, formatting requirements, and technical specifications are met flawlessly.
  • Collaboration Partner closely with Grant Researchers/Writers and the Director of Development to maintain a pipeline of high-quality, submission-ready funding applications.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Expert Writing & Editing Skills Proven experience in copyediting, technical writing, or proofreading (experience with grant proposals or nonprofit fundraising materials is highly preferred).
  • Attention to Detail Meticulous eye for formatting, grammatical consistency, and adherence to strict submission guidelines.
  • Communication Skills Commitment to clear, concise, and professional email and digital communication.
  • Project Management Awareness Familiarity with project management concepts or the military transition process is a plus, but not required.
  • Technical Proficiency Comfort using digital collaboration tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Shared Drives).

Standard Volunteer Expectations

  • Reliability & Commitment Fulfill a regular schedule of volunteer service and complete assigned editorial tasks promptly. Notify the team as early as possible if an unforeseen schedule change affects deadlines.
  • Professionalism Treat all VPMMA members, partners, and fellow volunteers with absolute respect and dignity, adhering strictly to the VPMMA Code of Conduct.
  • Confidentiality & Data Privacy Protect the privacy of our members and safeguard VPMMA's proprietary funding data and operational resources.
  • Compliance Adhere to all organization guidelines, including anti-discrimination, social media, and safety policies.
  • Note Volunteers are not covered under the organization's liability insurance policy and are expected to obtain personal insurance coverage if desired. Background checks may be required depending on the nature of the position.

Training and Support

New volunteers will receive a comprehensive orientation covering VPMMA's mission, standard operating procedures, and the Growth and Development team's specific workflows. You will receive ongoing coaching and support to ensure you have all the resources and tools you need to excel in this role.
