JOB DESCRIPTION
Directly supervising, supporting, and providing direction and leadership to an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) engineering team responsible for developing customer-specific mechanical and electromechanical designs. The Engineering Manager will lead a team that works closely with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing, and customers to deliver custom solutions that meet technical, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
This role is responsible for balancing customer responsiveness with design standardization and manufacturability, while developing team capability, improving ETO execution efficiency, and supporting overall business objectives.

The Engineering Manager will lead a team that works closely with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing, and customers to deliver custom solutions that meet technical, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
This role is responsible for balancing customer responsiveness with design standardization and manufacturability, while developing team capability, improving ETO execution efficiency, and supporting overall business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) engineering team responsible for customer-specific designs from initial request through final release to manufacturing.
- Support Sales during pre-order and post-order phases by providing technical feasibility reviews, scope definition, and design clarification for customer opportunities.
- Ensure ETO designs meet customer requirements while aligning with Vertiv engineering standards, safety requirements, regulatory compliance, cost targets, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Provide technical oversight and direction for custom designs, including layouts, drawings, calculations, BOMs, and supporting documentation.
- Drive reuse of standard platforms, modules, and proven designs wherever possible while enabling necessary customization.
- Partner closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations to ensure ETO designs are producible, cost-effective, and support delivery commitments.
- Manage engineering workload, priorities, and resource allocation to meet commercial demand and delivery schedules.
- Support resolution of design issues, manufacturing non-conformances, and customer change requests.
- Interact directly with customers and customer engineering teams as needed to review designs and address technical questions.
- Develop and mentor engineering team members through coaching, performance evaluations, and technical leadership.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent work experience
Experience
- 3-5 years of engineering experience in an Engineer-to-Order (ETO), custom product, or project-based environment.
- Experience working directly with Sales and customers in a technical capacity.
- Experience supporting manufacturing and cross-functional production environments.
10 – 15% Domestic travel required
