Position Overview
JOB DESCRIPTION
Directly supervising, supporting, and providing direction and leadership to the Sustaining Engineering team responsible for supporting released products throughout their lifecycle. The Sustaining Engineering Manager will lead a team focused on product reliability, manufacturability, compliance, and continuous improvement while partnering closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, and Customer Support.
This role ensures existing products continue to meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, cost targets, and operational needs while driving design improvements, issue resolution, and long-term product health.
Responsibilities
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent work experience
Master’s Degree – Preferred
5 – 10% Domestic travel required

The Sustaining Engineering Manager will lead a team focused on product reliability, manufacturability, compliance, and continuous improvement while partnering closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, and Customer Support.
This role ensures existing products continue to meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, cost targets, and operational needs while driving design improvements, issue resolution, and long-term product health.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a Sustaining Engineering team responsible for supporting released products across their full lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership for root cause analysis, failure investigations, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to resolve production issues, improve yield, and reduce cost.
- Oversee engineering changes, deviations, and documentation updates to ensure accuracy, compliance, and traceability.
- Support customer escalations and field issues by providing engineering analysis and technical solutions.
- Ensure products remain compliant with applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and regulatory certifications.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, reliability, cost reduction, and manufacturability.
- Manage engineering workload, priorities, and resource allocation to meet business and operational needs.
- Develop and mentor sustaining engineers through coaching, technical guidance, and performance management.
- Collaborate with New Product Development and ETO teams to transition products smoothly into sustaining support.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent work experience
Master’s Degree – Preferred
- 5-8 years of engineering experience supporting manufactured products or systems.
- 3 years of engineering management or technical leadership experience.
- Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action processes, and sustaining engineering workflows.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD, PLM systems, and engineering change management processes.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
5 – 10% Domestic travel required
