We’re partnering with a national, publicly traded infrastructure company to identify an experienced Health and Safety Officer for a critical on-site leadership role in Amarillo, TX.
This position is ideal for a proven construction leader with experience managing large, technically complex DOE 413.B programs while fostering a strong safety culture, operational discipline, and a highly collaborative project environment.
This role is essential to the successful execution of NNSA advanced facilities and infrastructure projects, particularly within highly regulated federal and nuclear environments.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
In this position, the Safety Manager will oversee compliance with all contractual safety and health requirements; ensure appropriate safety measures are implemented and followed throughout the duration of the contract; identify and ensure timely and appropriate correction of safety issues related to the work performed; and assign responsibility for a minimum of daily jobsite safety and health inspections during all periods of work activity, including subcontracted work. The Safety Manager will lead safety professionals, conduct hazard assessments, manage incident investigations, and serve as the primary safety interface with clients and regulatory agencies across multiple projects within the program.
What You’ll Do:
· Develop, implement, and maintain the Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and all required safety plans in accordance with contract requirements
· Conduct daily site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments; exercise stop-work authority when imminent danger or serious safety violations are identified
· Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and specialized safety training for all project personnel, subcontractors, and visitors
· Investigate all incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare detailed investigation reports with root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations
· Manage industrial hygiene monitoring programs including air sampling, noise surveys, heat stress monitoring, and radiological exposure tracking
· Serve as the primary point of contact with DOE safety representatives, site occupational medical personnel, and regulatory agencies on all safety and health matters
· Maintain and submit all required safety documentation, metrics, and reports including OSHA recordkeeping, safety statistics, and regulatory compliance records
· Work a minimum of 50 hours per week; must be available on-site during all active construction operations including extended shifts and weekends
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field
Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline
Required Licenses/Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification
Preferred Licenses/Certifications: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises 1–3 safety professionals and safety technicians
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travels: Yes /Percent of time: 40%/ Overnight required: Yes, occasionally for corporate safety meetings or training
