Building Automation Technician
We are working with a leading building automation and controls provider that is seeking an experienced Building Automation Technician to support projects throughout New Jersey. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician with strong Distech Controls and Tridium Niagara experience to join a growing team delivering high-quality automation solutions.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for installing, commissioning, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting building automation systems. The primary focus will be on Distech Controls BACnet systems and Tridium Niagara (AX/N4) platforms. You will work both independently and as part of a project team to ensure systems operate reliably and meet client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Commissioning
- Install and configure Distech Controls field devices, controllers, sensors, actuators, and panel assemblies
- Program and commission Tridium Niagara (AX/N4) controllers and supervisory controllers
- Configure and troubleshoot BACnet/IP and MS/TP networks
Software & Programming
- Develop and modify control logic using Niagara Workbench (AX/N4) and Distech EC-NET or equivalent tools
- Create, edit, and optimize system graphics, schedules, alarms, and trends
- Implement sequencing, setpoints, and energy optimization strategies
Maintenance, Support & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve control system issues across Distech and Tridium platforms
- Provide on-site and remote technical support, including root-cause analysis
- Maintain accurate records of service activities and system configurations
Testing & Documentation
- Perform functional testing of installed equipment
- Produce clear and accurate documentation, including as-built drawings, control narratives, and diagrams
- Train clients and building operators on system use, interfaces, and scheduling
Client & Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with general contractors, engineers, facility teams, and project managers
- Participate in site meetings, coordinate with other trades, and provide regular status updates
- Mentor junior technicians when required
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Proven hands-on experience with Distech Controls products and programming
- Strong experience with the Tridium Niagara Framework (AX/N4), including Workbench, driver configuration, and BACnet integration
- Solid understanding of BACnet/IP and MS/TP networks, field wiring, and I/O devices
- Strong HVAC fundamentals and control logic knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics
Certifications (Preferred)
- Tridium Niagara Certification (any level)
- Distech Controls Certification
- Certified BACnet Professional (CBP) or BACnet Fundamentals certification
- EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling certification (a plus)
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to prioritize tasks effectively
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel throughout New Jersey
- Ability to work on-site in customer facilities
- Ability to pass background checks as required
Salary : $90,000 - $130,000
