Network Security Engineer:
Our client is seeking a Network Security Engineer to support and enhance enterprise cybersecurity operations across a complex technology environment. This role is responsible for securing critical infrastructure, responding to security events, implementing modern security technologies, and partnering with cross-functional teams to strengthen the organization's overall security posture. The ideal candidate is a collaborative cybersecurity professional with strong technical expertise, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risk.
This role is on-site in Phoenix, Arizona or Irvine, California.
Network Security Engineer Responsibilities:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise security technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint protection, SIEM platforms, identity and access management, and vulnerability management solutions.
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to security alerts, malware activity, and cybersecurity incidents while supporting containment, remediation, recovery, and post-incident analysis.
- Conduct threat analysis, packet inspection, forensic investigations, and root cause analysis to identify and resolve security events.
- Identify security vulnerabilities, assess control deficiencies, and implement appropriate remediation strategies to reduce organizational risk.
- Design, deploy, and support new security technologies and technical controls that improve the organization's cybersecurity capabilities.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, systems, and application teams to ensure secure architecture and adherence to cybersecurity best practices.
- Participate in security projects and initiatives focused on improving enterprise security, compliance, and operational resilience.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, security standards, and implementation guides.
- Support security monitoring, alert tuning, and continuous improvement of detection and response capabilities.
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and provide support during critical security incidents or infrastructure events.
- Stay current on evolving cybersecurity threats, emerging technologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements to recommend ongoing security improvements.
- Mentor team members and share technical expertise by contributing to knowledge transfer, documentation, and process improvements as needed.
Network Security Engineer Qualifications:
- 4-7 years of experience administering enterprise cybersecurity technologies within a large-scale IT environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, SIEM platforms, vulnerability management, identity and access management, or other enterprise security technologies.
- Experience performing incident response, threat detection, malware analysis, forensic investigations, and security event analysis.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts, including routers, switches, TCP/IP, VPNs, network segmentation, and secure network design.
- Experience supporting Windows server environments, Active Directory, authentication technologies, and enterprise operating systems.
- Familiarity with physical, virtualized, and cloud infrastructure security principles and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of defense-in-depth strategies, cybersecurity frameworks, attack methodologies, and mitigation techniques.
- Experience implementing and maintaining security controls that align with regulatory, compliance, and industry best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, prioritize competing responsibilities, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security , CySA , GSEC, GCIH, CHFI, or comparable cybersecurity certifications are preferred.
