At Valley Mountain Regional Center, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Part-Time Staff Physician – Developmental Disabilities Services to provide medical consultation, eligibility evaluation, and clinical leadership in support of individuals with developmental disabilities. This role serves as both a medical expert and advocate, working closely with consumers, families, staff, and community providers to support quality care and service coordination.
What You’ll Do
Provide Medical Leadership & Consultation
Deliver medical consultations to staff, service providers, and consumers regarding health care needs and developmental disabilities.
Support Eligibility & Intake Determination
Conduct medical evaluations and eligibility reviews for Early Start and Lanterman services, including physical examinations and review of health histories.
Act as a Consumer Health Advocate
Support consumers in navigating healthcare services, including visiting hospitalized individuals and collaborating with community physicians.
Key Responsibilities
Intake & Eligibility Functions
- Complete eligibility reviews for Early Start and Lanterman programs
- Review health histories and perform physical examinations for diagnostic and eligibility determination
- Participating in eligibility conferences
Case Management & Clinical Support
- Make referrals for general and specialty medical care
- Review appropriateness and quality of medical care provided to consumers
- Provide counseling to consumers and families on medical aspects of developmental disabilities
- Serve as a healthcare advocate, including visiting hospitalized consumers
- Complete physician-certified forms and documentation
- Provide second opinions and incidental medical services when clinically indicated
- Participate in clinical staffing and multidisciplinary clinical teams (e.g., psychotropic medication review, behavior management review, human rights committee)
- Review Special Incident Reports (SIRs), including consumer death reports, and ensure appropriate follow-up

Qualifications:What You’ll Bring / Qualifications
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent)
- Current license to practice medicine in the State of California
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed physician
- At least three (3) years of experience working with patients with developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of medical aspects of developmental disabilities
- Understanding of the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families
- Ability to manage psychosocial aspects of care related to developmental disabilities
- Strong collaboration skills with staff, consumers, and service providers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
