Staff Accountant

Location: Raleigh, NC - Onsite

A growing international manufacturing organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to support both general accounting operations and accounts receivable processes. This role offers broad exposure to accounting, financial operations, audit support, customer account management, and cross-functional problem-solving.

Approximately 60-70% of the role will focus on general accounting responsibilities, including month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting support, and audit preparation. The remaining 30-40% will focus on accounts receivable activities such as payment application, collections, customer account reconciliation, invoice research, and issue resolution.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly with both internal stakeholders and customers to solve issues and improve processes.

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and timely manner
• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and other month-end close activities
• Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations while researching and resolving variances
• Support monthly and annual close processes
• Assist with inventory-related reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Support external audit preparation through schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
• Assist in maintaining internal controls and accounting procedures
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and operational efficiency
  
  

• Apply and reconcile customer payments within the ERP system
• Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, deduction issues, unapplied cash, overpayments, and credit balances
• Perform collection activities and follow up on outstanding accounts
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing and payment issues
• Reconcile customer accounts and maintain accurate receivable records
• Prepare aging reports and analyze collection trends
• Research customer deductions and payment variances
• Respond professionally to customer account inquiries
• Maintain documentation of customer communications and dispute resolution efforts
• Contribute ideas to improve cash application, collections effectiveness, and overall receivables performance
  
  

• Work closely with finance, operations, sales, and customer service teams
• Assist with process improvement initiatives
• Support special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as assigned
  
  

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
• 3-5 years of accounting, accounts receivable, or financial operations experience
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting fundamentals
• Experience with customer account reconciliation, collections, cash application, or receivables management
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis
• Experience working with ERP systems
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multiple departments
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  
  

• Experience with Sage or another mid-market ERP platform
• Manufacturing industry experience
• Experience working with international operations or global organizations
• Experience with customer invoicing portals or procurement systems
• Experience researching payment discrepancies and maintaining customer account records

• Strong ownership of customer account reconciliations and payment investigations
