Location: NYC
Pay range:$120K to $130K base
Our client, a leading investment banking firm, is seeking a Manager, Payroll Tax Compliance to oversee payroll tax operations across the U.S. and Canada. This role is ideal for a hands-on payroll leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings both technical expertise and strong people management skills.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and oversee payroll tax compliance for U.S. and Canadian operations
- Lead the end-to-end payroll process, including processing and running payroll
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all payroll taxes and regulatory reporting
- Supervise and mentor a payroll team, providing leadership and development
- Partner with internal stakeholders (HR, Finance, Accounting) to ensure seamless payroll operations
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local regulations
- Support audits, reconciliations, and reporting activities
- Drive process improvements and system efficiencies (including Workday, if applicable)
- Build strong relationships with internal clients and external vendors
- Travel as needed within the U.S. and Canada
- 5 years of payroll experience, including hands-on processing
- Proven people management experience in a payroll environment
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll tax compliance
- Solid understanding of payroll accounting principles
- Experience with Workday preferred
- FPC or CPP certification preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:
- the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
