We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Forklift Operator to join our Shipping Yard team at our structural steel manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for safely moving, staging, loading, and unloading structural steel materials to support production schedules and outbound shipments. The ideal candidate has prior forklift experience in an industrial setting, experience operating overhead cranes, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Saw Operator to join our structural steel manufacturing team on 3rd shift. This position is responsible for operating industrial band saws to cut structural steel materials accurately and efficiently according to shop drawings and production schedules. The Saw Operator plays a key role in ensuring production flow, material accuracy, and quality standards are consistently met.
Responsibilities
- Operate automatic and semi-automatic band saws to cut structural steel (beams, channels, angles, tubing, plate, etc.) to precise dimensions.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, cut lists, and work orders.
- Measure and verify materials using tape measures and precision tools.
- Set up saw equipment including blade selection, feed rate adjustments, and material alignment.
- Maintain tight cutting tolerances and quality standards.
- Inspect incoming materials for defects or inconsistencies.
- Mark and stage materials for downstream fabrication processes.
- Perform routine maintenance including blade changes and equipment cleaning.
- Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move material (experience preferred).
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior experience operating industrial saw equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read blueprints and production documentation.
- Proficient with tape measure and basic math (fractions/decimals).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong work ethic and reliability for overnight shift schedule.
Preferred:
- Experience in structural steel fabrication.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Familiarity with steel grades and material specifications.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing and repetitive motion.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial temperature variations.
- Required PPE (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves).
