Job Duties

Key Job Responsibilities:

Department

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a nationally recognized research university serving approximately 24,000 students from 87 countries and is known for combining academic excellence with access and affordability. The university maintains strong partnerships with industry, health systems, and community organizations to translate research into practice and to prepare graduates for success in a global workforce. UWM is deeply committed to inclusive excellence and strives to build a diverse faculty, staff, and student community whose experiences and perspectives reflect the populations it serves.

The Kinesiology degree programs are housed in the Zilber College of Public Health and center on the generation, integration, and application of knowledge related to human movement, exercise, and sport across health, performance, and clinical contexts. Faculty and instructional staff engage in high-impact teaching, applied and translational research, and community and clinical partnerships. The programs emphasize student engagement, experiential learning, and career readiness, with extensive laboratory, field, and internship opportunities. Collaborative connections across campus support interdisciplinary teaching and research, as well as certificate and interprofessional training opportunities that extend learning into complementary health, aging, and population health.

The BS in Kinesiology is a multidisciplinary undergraduate program with over 400 majors that provides a strong scientific and applied foundation in human movement and exercise. Core coursework includes human anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor behavior, statistics, and psychological and sociological aspects of physical activity and sport. Students can pursue specialized upper-level coursework in areas such as strength and conditioning and clinical exercise physiology, and many complete supervised internships to gain professional field experience. Graduates pursue a wide range of pathways: roughly half prepare for advanced professional programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training, while others enter applied careers in fitness, performance, coaching, and health promotion. The curriculum is designed to support both pre-professional preparation and immediate workforce entry.

The MS in Kinesiology provides advanced, on-campus graduate education focused on physical activity, exercise, and sport in relation to health, disease prevention, and human performance. The program supports multiple career trajectories, including clinical and applied roles, strength and conditioning, clinical exercise physiology, and preparation for doctoral study or other health professional programs. Students complete rigorous graduate coursework in research methods and specialized kinesiology content while selecting a thesis, project/internship, or comprehensive exam track aligned with their professional goals. The program prioritizes innovative, student-centered instruction, close faculty mentorship, and applied learning experiences, making it especially attractive to educators and mentors who are passionate about preparing the next generation of kinesiology and exercise science professionals.
