We invite applications for the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) of Clinical Programs Advancement.
The AVC provides strategic leadership for fundraising across clinical departments and the University’s Grateful Patient programs. The role requires a proven fundraiser with experience closing seven‑figure gifts from grateful patients and demonstrated success engaging physicians. The AVC leads a high‑performing team of frontline fundraisers and staff, developing a comprehensive strategy that integrates philanthropy into the clinical care continuum. This includes close partnership with UPMC department chairs, division chiefs, center and institute directors, faculty, physicians, and senior leadership at both Pitt and UPMC. The AVC will also help shape strategy for the Clinical Programs Advancement team in collaboration with the VC for Health Sciences & Clinical Programs Advancement and the Acting Chief Advancement Officer for Pitt’s upcoming comprehensive campaign.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Provide innovative leadership for major gift fundraising across Pitt and UPMC clinical areas.
- Partner with department leadership to implement and expand grateful patient programs.
- Build strong relationships with physicians and increase physician participation.
- Supervise staff and guide program execution to engage grateful patient prospects and families.
- Develop performance metrics to drive growth in fundraising activity and revenue.
- Recommend organizational structures that maximize coverage of priority areas and resources.
- Manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects within assigned clinical areas.
- Partner with senior leaders, including department chairs and hospital leadership, to communicate and advance fundraising priorities.
- Lead staff in developing strategies to increase participating physicians, donors, and total dollars raised.
- Ability to lead and supervise staff executing Pitt’s Grateful Patient fundraising program.
- Manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, including cultivating new prospects and meeting ambitious performance goals.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with physicians, department chairs, and institutional leaders to inspire partnership and collaboration.
- Develop broad knowledge of academic research and clinical programs to communicate effectively with donors.
