Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC), Cancer Biology Program (CBP), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will primarily engage in conducting computational drug discovery and implementing state-of-the-art computational methods and models. The role also involves contributing to the development of novel drug candidates and enhancing our understanding of cancer biology through advanced computational techniques. Assists with managing laboratory operations, mentors trainees and junior scientist, and contributes to interdisciplinary research collaborations. High passion to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams including modelers, chemists, biologists, and clinicians.
Primary Qualifications
**EDUCATION**
PhD from an accredited college or university
in computer or data science, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, or any related field.
**EXPERIENCE**
One to three (1-3) years of work experience in a clinical or biology research laboratory. Includes, but not limited to, experience in computer-aided drug design techniques and software tools, especially for molecular docking, virtual screening, high-throughput screening, (Q)SAR studies and other computational modeling applications; in chemical/biological/multi-omics big data analysis, curation, and processing; and with the latest ML/AI algorithm/method development and model building, especially with LLMs and digital twins.
**KNOWLEDGE**
Knowledge of basic principles of drug discovery and development and cancer biology. Knowledge of system hardware/software administration and web-based application development. equipment, techniques, safety procedures, and chemical/biological/multi-omics data analysis, curation and processing. Knowledge of ordering and purchasing laboratory equipment and supplies. Knowledge of Microsoft Office application software, such as Excel.
**ABILITIES and SKILLS**
Ability to work independently, yet under the direction of a professional staff member, major research activities of a scientific and technical nature. Ability to communicate well and excellent interpersonal skills for effective interdisciplinary collaboration and mentorship. Proven ability to manage laboratory operations and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Laboratory Safety training within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employees initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to complete the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) Transportation of Biological Substances training within two (2) weeks from date of hire. Must complete training provided by the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) for hazardous waste management within two (2) weeks from date of hire.
