Job Summary

The University Memorial Center (UMC) with CU Boulder is currently accepting applications for a Custodian! This position provides daily cleaning and sanitization for UMC Custodial Services to provide a welcoming learning and social environment. Additionally, this role is responsible for the daily cleaning, weekly deep cleaning, and seasonal cleaning projects of the UMC. The position, at times, performs emergency clean up duties in accordance with established University guidelines.

University Memorial Center

The University Memorial Center (UMC) is an exciting center for activism and community interaction, offering a variety of student services and active student governance. Known as the campus “living room,” thousands of people visit the University Memorial Center every day to grab a bite to eat, enjoy free entertainment, shop the retail stores, study with the free wireless internet or engage with peers. The UMC celebrates diversity through food, dance, art, music and the free exchange of ideas.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Clean UMC Public Areas

  • Clean and sanitize all public areas daily, including but not limited to lounges, study coves, foyers, break rooms, entryways, hallways, and stairways.
  • Daily cleaning is performed multiple times throughout the workday based on assigned tasks by the Custodial Services Manager.
  • The cleaning includes: sweeping, mopping of all hard surfaces (tile and wood flooring), dusting windows and other glass surfaces, vacuuming carpets, emptying waste receptacles, and wiping down counters, tables, chairs and all high touch point areas.

Daily Bathroom Cleaning

  • Follow daily cleaning protocols to clean assigned bathrooms on a routine basis.
  • Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures (toilets, urinals, sinks), sweep and mop floors, wipe down stalls, walls, and dispensers, cleaning mirrors, restock various dispensers with the appropriate products and empty waste receptacles.

Daily Cleaning of UMC Department Offices, Study Spaces and Tenants Offices

  • Clean various office, study and tenant spaces as assigned.
  • Sweep and mop hard surfaces, vacuum carpets where appropriate, empty waste receptacles, wipe down counters and all high touch points, and dust and clean windows as needed.

Seasonal Projects

  • Seasonal projects include stripping and refinishing tile floors, shampooing carpets, deep cleaning office spaces that include vent-cleaning, wall wipe downs, upholstery cleaning of office furniture, window cleaning, and additional projects as assigned.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Position is responsible for responding on an as-needed basis for snow removal, specialty, or emergency work, which could include; clean-up of water or debris, moving and assisting in moving furniture, emergency clean up, deep-water extraction, and disinfection process.
  • Position is responsible for the snow removal of specific assigned areas on the outside of the UMC including sidewalks, patios, and ramps. This includes initial snow removal and applying of deicer (ice melt) and the removal of the snow throughout the day to ensure areas are open and safe.
  • When needed assist UMC Maintenance or UMC Set-up Operations.

What You Should Know

  • The anticipated shift for this position is Sunday - Thursday 12:30pm - 9pm.

Essential Services

This position is designated “essential/critical services.” The incumbent is required to respond to requests for work during campus emergencies (snow, wind, rain, flood and any other natural or man-made event) and report to work for regularly assigned shifts during emergency campus closures.
