Job Summary
The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics is seeking a student or recent graduate to support the completion of a scientific research project using data from NASA’s Juno Mission. This position will assist with analyzing Juno-JADE data related to Jupiter’s magnetosphere, with a focus on identifying when and where the Juno spacecraft crossed key magnetospheric boundaries, including the Bow Shock and Magnetopause.
The primary goal of this work is to help develop a public-facing database of Juno boundary crossings and contribute to writing the results of the study into a publishable scientific paper. This is a short-term, part-time position intended to support the final stages of research, data analysis, documentation, and manuscript preparation.

Responsibilities
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- This position will be responsible for gathering, organizing, and analyzing Juno Mission data related to Jupiter’s magnetosphere. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and analyzing Juno-JADE data to determine the times and locations of Bow Shock and Magnetopause crossings.
- Creating and maintaining a structured database of identified boundary crossings that may be made publicly available for future scientific use.
- Using Python or similar programming tools to process, analyze, and organize spacecraft data.
- Documenting analysis methods, assumptions, and findings in a clear and reproducible manner.
- Assisting with the preparation of figures, tables, and written descriptions for inclusion in a scientific manuscript.
- Contributing to the development of a publishable paper based on the research findings.
- Working with the supervising researcher to refine data products, verify results, and support final publication preparation.
- This is a part-time, short-term position intended to support the completion of an existing research project and the preparation of a scientific paper.
- The work will involve scientific data analysis using Juno Mission data and may require independent work, careful documentation, and regular communication with the supervising researcher.
- Experience with Juno-JADE data is highly relevant to the role. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with scientific datasets, programming tools, and research documentation.
- Depending on the nature of the data access and project requirements, the employee may need to follow applicable university, LASP, NASA, or project-specific data handling and publication guidelines.

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, planetary science, space physics, engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience using Python for scientific data analysis.
- Experience working with Juno-JADE data or closely related spacecraft/space physics datasets.
- Experience conducting independent research or contributing to a scientific research project.
- Ability to analyze scientific data and interpret results in the context of planetary magnetospheres, space plasma physics, or a related field.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to contribute to technical or scientific writing.
- Strong Python programming skills for data analysis, data organization, and/or visualization.
- Ability to work with large or complex scientific datasets.
- Attention to detail when identifying and documenting spacecraft boundary crossings.
- Ability to organize data in a clear, consistent, and reproducible format.
- Ability to communicate scientific findings clearly in writing.
- Ability to work independently while incorporating feedback from a supervising researcher.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to complete work on a short-term project timeline.
- Familiarity with scientific research methods, manuscript preparation, and publication standards.
- Prior experience analyzing Juno-JADE data.
- Prior research experience related to Jupiter, planetary magnetospheres, bow shocks, magnetopauses, or space plasma environments.
- Experience preparing or contributing to an honors thesis, research paper, poster, presentation, or manuscript.
- Experience creating datasets or databases intended for public or shared scientific use.
- Experience generating figures, tables, or other data products for scientific publication.
- Interest in continuing research in planetary science, space physics, astrophysics, or a related graduate program.
