Job Summary

The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) at the University of Colorado, Boulder is seeking applications for an Equitable Assessment Specialist! This role works with faculty and support staff to develop and use equitable assessment practices grounded in research for the improvement of teaching and learning. This specialized position enhances the staff expertise in the CTL by providing assessment support for courses and programs across the subject areas. This includes providing assessment support to individual faculty and other CU educators, course teams, and academic and other programs by designing assessment plans; developing and refining assessment instruments (e.g., surveys, focus group protocols, classroom observation protocols); and analyzing, visualizing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative assessment data. This position helps to advance the University-wide assessment initiatives and the CTL’s vision of a diverse and inclusive community of educators and learners.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Instructional Assessment and Consultation

Assist Faculty Of All Ranks And Categories Through

  • Individual and group consultations on equitable assessment practices in individual courses (particularly large courses) and/or curriculum planning
  • Use of both quantitative and qualitative assessment methods as appropriate for the individual class session level, course level, and curricular or program level to suggest what to change or continue within specific contexts
  • Interpreting data and guiding the use of assessment findings for action plans
  • Conducting classroom interviews and classroom observations to provide formative feedback on instructional practices

Programming Development and Delivery

  • Design and implement workshops, tutorials, working groups, etc. to help instructors develop learning objectives, select appropriate teaching strategies, and use appropriate assessment tools
  • Engage in outreach to departments to develop departmental trainings tailored to their unique teaching, learning, and assessment needs
  • Curate, create, and refine online resources related to equitable and inclusive assessment of student learning, teaching effectiveness, and program-level outcomes
  • Collaborate with Data & Analytics, the Office of Undergraduate Education, Academic Planning & Assessment, and other campus units to use institutional data such as surveys and enrollment data to inform programs and services

Collaboration

  • Participate as an active team member to implement CTL activities and programs
  • Support the assessment and evaluation of CTL programs and services
  • Contribute to the creation of the CTL’s annual report
  • Work collaboratively with campus networks & resources
  • Contribute, as appropriate, to assessment activities in support of the University’s assessment and accreditation function
  • Remain current with trends in equitable assessment in higher education, as well as teaching and learning in general

What You Should Know

Approximately 2 days in office per week, and for additional events and as needed.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary range for this position is $86,100.00 - $90,000.00.

What We Require

  • Master’s Degree in Educational Assessment or research-based field.
  • Two years of post-secondary (college or university) teaching experience as instructor of record.
  • Two years of work experience in assessment, evaluation, educational research or measurement, or another quantitative research area (e.g., psychology).

What You Will Need

  • Proven understanding of and expertise with principles and practices of inclusive teaching in higher education.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with qualitative and quantitative research methods, including data analysis using statistical software such as R or SPSS.
  • Proven instructional development ability (e.g., program/course design).
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, presenting, and one-to-one interactions.
  • Familiarity with current literature on evidence-based pedagogy.
  • Ability to work effectively in settings of social and intellectual diversity.
  • Expertise in individual and group training and coaching.
  • Ability both to work independently and to interact with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proven ability and efficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and database management using Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Experience using statistical programs such as SPSS or R, and online survey tools such as Qualtrics.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting data visualization tools.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience working with peoples from a diverse group of backgrounds and identities.
  • Experience in designing and implementing direct and indirect assessments of learning in higher education.
  • Terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in a field focused on quantitative research (e.g., Education Research, Psychology) or related subject areas.
  • Evidence of professional development (publications, presentations, certifications, etc.).
  • Experience working with collaborative teams.
  • Experience with digital and online environments.
  • Record of successful program research, development and delivery.
