Job Summary
An Internal Communications Specialist II coordinates and advances internal communications strategies to increase employee engagement, alignment, and coordination across the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP). The individual serves as a critical connector between LASP’s divisions and teams, ensuring structured, consistent, and strategically aligned messaging that advances institutional priorities and reinforces organizational culture.
This role partners directly with senior leadership, Human Resources, and division representatives to translate strategic objectives into clear and actionable communications plans. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of modern intranet platforms, digital workplace best practices, user experience principles, and analytics to continuously improve communication effectiveness across the laboratory.
Who We Are
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Internal Communications Strategy & Governance
- Coordinate the development and execution of an internal communications strategy aligned with LASP’s mission, vision, values, and goals
- Translate strategic initiatives into structured communication plans that drive awareness, understanding, and engagement
- Establish and maintain internal communication standards, templates, and governance processes to ensure clarity and consistency across divisions
Organizational Alignment & Culture Support
- Execute communications initiatives that support organizational clarity and reinforce institutional culture
- Coordinate cross-divisional messaging efforts to ensure alignment and reduce redundancy or conflicting communications
- Support change management communications related to new policies, organizational updates, and strategic initiatives
Senior Leadership Communications
- Facilitate communications from senior leadership to the lab
- Draft, review, and refine executive communications and presentations to ensure clarity, tone consistency, and strategic alignment
- Advise leaders on messaging approach, sequencing, and communication timing
Labwide Communications & Events
- Create labwide communication products for employees, including emails, newsletters, intranet home page content, and related materials
- Coordinate and curate content in partnership with leadership, HR, and Finance & Operations related to:
- Organizational strategy, policies, and performance
- Labwide and program updates
- New policies, processes, and tools
- Employee information from CU and LASP HR
- Employee news, recognition, and announcements
- Upcoming events and institutional milestones
- Coordinate speakers, agendas, and communication plans for labwide virtual and in-person meetings and events
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and monitor metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications
- Review engagement data and recommend improvements to communication strategy and execution
- Prepare summary reports and insights for leadership to inform future communication planning
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned

- This is a hybrid position with 3 days onsite

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3 years of experience in internal communications.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, etc), WordPress or other CMS, and other collaboration/communication tools, such as Slack, Confluence, Jira, Qualtrics, Zoom, Yodeck, and related platforms.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience with internal communications in a research, scientific, engineering, or higher-education environment.
- Five or more years of experience in internal communications.
- Experience working directly with an organization’s senior leadership.
- Experience with WordPress.
