Student Employee - Student Teacher (Assistant Teacher)

Description

Assist in the care of infant and children between the ages of 6 weeks and 10 years of age. Student teachers will support the infants and children in their development, to include:

• growth & physical characteristics
• motor
• perceptual – cognitive
• speech & language
• personal – social

Examples of Duties

• Participate and communicate with children during daily activities.
• Support other teachers with learning activities, transition times and general classroom management.
• Attend to the physical needs of the children; to include diapers and toilet training.
• Assist children during mealtimes; supporting a “family-style” dining atmosphere
• Ensure that infants and children interact or depart from the center with an authorized individual.
• Assist in writing appropriate reports to the parents and for children’s file; to include accident, incident, daily classroom reports and developmental records.
• Light housekeeping duties to ensure the safety of the children and to provide a clean environment.

Typical Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Have the ability to speak, read and write in English
• Have the ability to communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds
• Must pass physical examination, have required immunization
• Must pass criminal background screening
• Friendly, outgoing, and motivated

Supplemental Information

• Student Employees/Teachers hired through Financial Aid would not be eligible to drive University-owned vehicles or transport children in their private vehicles.
