Orientation Leaders (OLs) are the spirited student leaders who bring UCM’s mission of Education for Service to life and help new Mules and Jennies see how UCM is committed to Redefining What’s Possible. OLs play an essential role in welcoming incoming freshman and transfer students and their families, guiding them through Orientation, answering questions, and helping them confidently step into their next chapter.
As an Orientation Leader, you’ll be the go-to guru for all things UCM, supporting students as they navigate the transition from high school to college and begin building their UCM story. This position will be hired for Spring 2026 and Summer 2026. Spring 2026 will consist of training and admitted student events to become more familiar with the student population you are serving, and Summer 2026 while facilitating New Student Orientation.
New Student Orientation has activities that take place in Summer 2026 on June 4, 5, 6, 11, 17,18,19 and July 31 and August 1. You must be available for most of these dates in order to be considered for the role.

Be the First Friendly Face of UCM

Welcome incoming students and their families with genuine Mule pride.

Serve as their main point of contact throughout Orientation—answering questions, offering guidance, and making sure everyone feels supported and included.

Share your own UCM experience to help new students picture themselves thriving here.

Lead “Mule Tracks” Experiences

Mule Tracks are small-group activities designed to help students connect based on areas of interest and explore campus life in a fun, safe, supportive environment.

Facilitate and guide your assigned Mule Track group through hands-on experiences tied to their interests.

Build community among students by encouraging participation, conversation, and shared discovery.

Ensure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered as they begin their journey at UCM.

Support the High School-to-College Transition

Help students shift into the academic, social, and personal expectations of college life.

Offer tips, resources, and real talk about what it means to be a successful Mule.

Encourage involvement, engagement, and confidence as they prepare to start classes.

Assist with check-in, crowd flow, session transitions, and wrap-up activities.

Provide campus directions, lead walking groups, and maintain a positive, energetic presence.

Work closely with New Student Programs and partner offices to deliver a polished, welcoming experience.

Typical Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Computer Skills, Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation
- Customer Service Experience – required, Presentation Experience – preferred
- Attention to detail
- Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal
- Knowledge of University environment preferred
- Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, must be competent with connecting with campus visitors
- Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership
- Physical abilities: mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
- Maintain confidentiality
- Excessive standing and/or walking, Exposure to extreme temperatures, Exposure to loud noises, Lifting (weight) - 40 lbs.

Special Instructions:
Full-time staff & 12-month faculty benefits-eligible position: Benefits include competitive salary; health, dental, vision, life insurance, AD & D, long-term disability; 3 weeks paid vacation per year; 3 weeks of accrued sick leave per year; 13 paid holidays; retirement; and generous education assistance for an employee, spouse and dependent children taking classes at UCM.
9-month faculty benefits-eligible position: Benefits include competitive salary; health, dental, vision, life insurance, AD & D, long-term disability; 3 weeks of accrued sick leave per year; 13 paid holidays; retirement; and generous education assistance for an employee, spouse and dependent children taking classes at UCM.
Part-time benefits-eligible positions: Benefits include generous education assistance for the employee.
Temporary, adjunct, student employment, or graduate assistant positions: Benefits are not included.
