Controller
SUMMARY:
Universal Products, Inc. is seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting and finance function. This role goes beyond traditional accounting—serving as a strategic partner to ownership and operations. The ideal candidate brings strong manufacturing/production accounting expertise, proven leadership ability, and a mindset focused on using financial insights to drive business performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, payroll, A/R, A/P, and fixed assets
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements/reporting
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Provide executive-level financial analysis to support strategic decision-making
- Partner with ownership and operational leaders to improve profitability and efficiency
- Analyze past and current performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Advise leadership on financial planning, cost management, and business strategy
- Drive value analysis and own relationships for company level expenses such as insurance, employee benefits, retirement plans, et al.
Audit, Tax, & Compliance
- Coordinate and lead all audit activities
- Coordinate S-Corp returns with tax provider
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial and regulatory standards
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including the Assistant Controller
- Establish clear processes, accountability, and performance expectations
- Build a high-performing, collaborative finance function
Operations & Manufacturing Finance
- Support production and operational teams with cost analysis and performance metrics
- Monitor and improve cost accounting processes and inventory controls
- Drive performance visibility into manufacturing operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment
Preferred
- CPA or CMA
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX/365 ERP systems
- Familiarity with business intelligence/reporting tools

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is primarily performed in an office environment with minimal exposure to noise or hazardous conditions. The employee may occasionally navigate stairs and interact with standard office equipment.
