**Program Description: UW Community Centers Summer Learning**
- The Summer Learning Program is important because research reveals that children from all backgrounds tend to progress equally in school, but over summer, higher income children continue improving while low-income children flat line or fall behind. This program plays a highly impactful role in the lives of at-risk kids in Utah County by preventing summer learning loss and helping them advance in both academic and social/emotional abilities.
- We will hold one session (morning) of Summer Learning for four continuous weeks during July 2026, for children grades 2-7. We will offer reading and math classes, taught by certified teachers, with one aid who is working toward an education degree in each class. We will also offer a social/emotional class, based on a state-endorsed curriculum and taught by certified teachers and interns; STEM activities; and weekly field trips/days, directly related to the week's STEM focus. Children will receive a free, healthy lunch and snacks daily.

- Plan and design four weeks of STEM curriculum: activities/classes. Including researching and selecting a weekly theme (such as renewable energy, air, gas, or lift and flight).
- Deliver STEM lessons and activities for your designated week (M-Th)
- Leading a culminating hands-on activity on Friday connected to the weekly theme
- Ordering and preparing necessary supplies and materials
- Preparing student handouts and family activity sheets
- Planning and coordinating field trips (every Friday)
- SL VISTAS and student aides will be assigned a group of students to work with throughout the entire Summer Learning program; he/she will get to know the students, help with academics, and social/emotional activities, assist teachers in the classroom and oversee the children during the field trips
- Prepare home activities that are fun and inviting for the whole family. These will be developed in coordination with our teachers.

**Site Operations & Logistics**
- Prepare center prior to program launch (setup, materials, organization)
- Oversee daily setup, cleanup, and facility readiness
- Manage inventory, supplies, and end-of-program restoration
- Ensure all materials are documented and stored for future use
- Inventory all supplies and restores centers prior to Summer Program conditions.
- Assist in supervision during recess activities. Prepare fun games and activities to share at recess. Also, indoor games for kids that prefer to stay inside for a day.
- Assist with daily food distribution and clean up (food handler's permit is required)
- Oversee student aides and work as a team to clean up centers and prepare for the next day of sum er learning
- Support the planning and execution of parents informational and greeting sessions
- Help gather pictures, create program folder and distribution of end of program survey
- Support SL coordinator with everything that is required to have a successful SL program
