Civil Engineer

United Staffing Associates is conducting a direct-hire search on behalf of an innovative organization advancing an engineered carbon soil amendment technology and renewable energy initiative focused on sustainable land management, clean energy production, environmental stewardship, and long-term economic development. We are seeking a Civil Engineer to support the design, development, and execution of this transformative project.


Position Summary

The Civil Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and improving biochar manufacturing systems and related processes. This role provides leadership for plant operations, overseeing four supervisors who collectively manage approximately 20 employees while directing, coordinating, and evaluating operational activities.


The successful candidate will combine engineering expertise, operational leadership, and continuous improvement methodologies to support manufacturing quality, reliability, efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.


Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Investigate and resolve operational problems, including material use variances and production bottlenecks.
  • Identify and implement changes to improve manufacturing processes or products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, materials, and product design.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical expertise and support related to manufacturing operations.
  • Incorporate new manufacturing methods or processes to improve existing operations.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness.
  • Determine root causes of failures or recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods using statistical procedures.
  • Prepare reports summarizing manufacturing performance trends.
  • Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
  • Design layout of equipment and workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and operational information to support production.
  • Supervise technicians, technologists, analysts, administrative staff, or other engineers.
  • Design, install, and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
  • Evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Make decisions and solve problems related to operations.
  • Obtain and interpret operational information and system data.
  • Use computer systems and tools to support engineering and operations functions.
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, and subordinates regarding operations and performance.
  • Analyze and process operational data and information.
  • Identify objects, actions, and events within manufacturing systems.
  • Monitor processes, materials, and operational conditions.
  • Draft, lay out, and specify technical devices, parts, and equipment.
  • Document and record operational and engineering information.
  • Analyze costs and benefits of proposed designs or projects.
  • Analyze operational data to evaluate operations, processes, and products.
  • Assess product and process usefulness and effectiveness.
  • Confer with technical personnel to prepare designs and operational plans.
  • Create graphical representations of industrial production systems.
  • Design industrial equipment and industrial processing systems.
  • Determine causes of operational problems or failures.
  • Determine operational methods and workflows.
  • Develop operational methods or processes using sustainable or green materials.
  • Develop technical methods or engineering processes.
  • Devise research or testing protocols.
  • Estimate operational costs, technical requirements, resource needs, and timelines for development or production.
  • Evaluate designs and specifications for quality compliance.
  • Implement design or process improvements, including installation of production equipment or systems.
  • Investigate environmental impacts of projects and operations.
  • Prepare operational reports and procedural documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to personnel and teams.
  • Purchase materials, equipment, and operational resources.
  • Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, and performance.
  • Resolve operational performance problems.
  • Supervise production and support personnel and participate in hiring, training, evaluation, and development.
  • Train personnel on operational procedures.
  • Maintain and update technical knowledge and industry practices.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university, preferably in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience with site development, infrastructure, construction, project management, or related engineering functions.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering principles, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with permitting, environmental review, or public agency processes is beneficial.
  • Bilingual language skills a plus.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $110,000 to $135,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
