What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing/Accounts Receivable Specialist (Thornwald Home) position at United Church of Christ Homes?
The purpose of the Billing/Accounts Receivable Specialist is to assist in the day-to-day accounting functions of Thornwald Home in accordance with current acceptable accounts receivable accounting and cost reimbursement principles relating to the long-term care operations.
Job Functions
- Assist in maintaining the day-to-day accounting functions and dialy census changes;
- Maintain accuracy af resident files, including verification of insurance benefits;
- Process and record all cash receipts for resident account balances;
- Prepare files for new residents and assure completeness, including contracts, orientation, etc.;
- Provide resident information to appropriate staff;
- Monitor, maintain, and collect accounts receivable balances, follow up on delinquent accounts, and report such issues to the Executive Director;
- Participate in monthly accounts receivable review meetings;
- Complete the billing clycle and manage and reconcile resident funds in accordance with established billing procedures;
- Provide information to residents and/or family members concerning billing matters;
- Prepare financial and statistical reports, as requested;Input financial data into computer, including charges, payments, payer status changes, etc.;
- Communicate with, prepare, and fill third-party peyers according to Medicare and Medicaid regulations;
- Manage petty cash exchanges; request and voucher petty cash checks as assigned;
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information;
- Report discrepancies, problems, and concerns to supervisor;
- Follow UCC Homes' resident care policies, Code of Conduct, corporate compliance guidelines and report suspected or known incidents of fraud, abuse of policies, or unauthorized attempt to access resident or facility information.
Requirements:
- Must have one year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting practices;
- Preference will be given to individuals with experience in health care accounting;
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred;
- Must possess the abiity to deal tactfully with personnel, resident, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public;
- Must possess leadershp ability and willingness to work harmoniously with others;
- Must be able to summarize and related information;
- Must have the abililty/willingness to learn basic computer skills;
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday, as well as ready, write, speak, and understand the English language;
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position;
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility.
