Ultimate Staffing is seeking a Mainboard Repair Engineer to join a client in Fort Worth. This is a full-time, direct hire position. This position is 100% onsite.
This position will focus on Motherboard Repair and Failure Analysis Engineering. It is a highly specialized technical expert responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and analyzing complex issues within motherboard circuits and related hardware. This role requires advanced technical knowledge beyond that of a technician, with a focus on root cause analysis, component-level repairs, rigorous testing, and providing design feedback to enhance product reliability and quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (approximately 90%; other duties may be assigned):
- Utilize sophisticated diagnostic tools and techniques, including circuit simulation and PCB layout analysis, to identify failures.
- Analyze power delivery, thermal dynamics, and signal integrity across multilayer PCBs.
- Troubleshoot performance issues involving CPU, GPU, RAM, and chipset communication.
- Identify root causes of motherboard failures, including hardware defects, environmental damage, design flaws, or manufacturing issues.
- Conduct post-mortem analysis using advanced tools such as X-ray inspection, electron microscopy, and infrared thermography.
- Repair or replace defective components such as capacitors, transistors, microcontrollers, and BGA-mounted chips.
- Perform micro-soldering, PCB trace repairs, and layered wiring rework using specialized equipment.
- Execute comprehensive testing of repaired motherboards under varied conditions, including thermal stress and load testing.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and monitor for early fault indicators.
- Provide technical feedback to R&D, quality assurance, and manufacturing teams to improve future motherboard designs.
- Work with cross-functional teams to minimize hardware vulnerabilities and enhance performance.
- Prepare detailed reports on failure analysis, corrective actions, and repair processes.
- Maintain records of recurring issues and recommend design improvements for reliability.
- Participate in prototype testing and evaluation of new designs.
- Suggest architectural enhancements based on historical failure analysis.
- Deliver technical support to clients or end-users, explaining failure causes and repair solutions.
- Perform additional tasks as needed, including inspection, soldering, testing, and data input.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of PCB design, electronics, and microprocessor architecture.
- Proficiency in debugging analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
- Familiarity with BIOS/EFI flashing, BGA rework, and firmware interfaces.
- Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and X-ray/thermal inspection tools.
- Competence in simulation software (e.g., OrCAD, Altium Designer) for electrical design validation.
- Expertise in reflow soldering, micro-soldering, and handling small SMD components and ICs.
- Ability to resolve issues across multilayer PCBs, including damaged traces and short circuits.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting diagnostic outputs.
- Skilled in conducting FMEA to prevent recurring issues and improve production reliability.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with design teams, engineers, and customers.
- Ability to prepare and present technical reports effectively.
Diagnosis: Multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, POST cards, thermal cameras, X-ray systems.
Repair: BGA rework stations, soldering stations, chip programmers.
Analysis: MATLAB/Simulink, Proteus, Altium, environmental stress test equipment.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Preferred Certifications:
- IPC 7711/7721 (PCB soldering)
- IPC-A-610 (PCB assembly standards)
- CompTIA A
- Certified Electronics Technician (CET)
- Advanced certifications in Signal Integrity or Power Integrity analysis.

Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
