Job Description

In collaboration with HR professionals, Legal and others, conducts workplace investigations with an emphasis on HR matters, including employment policy violations, retaliation, harassment, and discrimination allegations. Ensures compliant documentation for employee relations matters and that polices, principles and practices are applied consistently and fairly. Meet with employees to investigate concerns, explain policies and procedures and present findings in a formal summary format. Coordinate various processes across UAB Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

In collaboration with HR professionals, Legal and others, conducts workplace investigations with an emphasis on HR matters, including employment policy violations, retaliation, harassment, and discrimination allegations.

  • Ensures policies, principles and practices are applied consistently and fairly. Investigates employee concerns, explains policies and procedures, and presents findings in a formal summary format.
  • Promotes direct communication and positive rapport between UAB Medicine employees and supervisors, clarifying policies and procedures, as necessary. Investigate concerns in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner to mitigate risk to the organization.
  • Provides support and guidance to others regarding the development of investigative plans, effective interview techniques, note taking, documentation, recommendations, and closure. Reviews escalated HR matters/documents to ensure thorough and accurate documentation with timely resolution and follow-up.
  • Ensures compliant, detailed, and accurate documentation for employee relations matters which includes ensuring organizational policies, principles and practices are applied consistently and fairly.
  • Maintains appropriate employee relations files and records, case management and tracking. Analyzes and tracks trends and proactively reports to Manager/Director.
  • Manages employee relations issues in assigned area(s).
  • Supports reporting of incidents to licensing agencies (e.g., Alabama Board of Nursing).
  • Coordinates the grievance process for UAHSF and UABHS employees.
  • Assists with coordinating Title IX investigations.
  • Submits certification/licensure reports and provides response to subpoenas for HR Employee Relations matters.
  • Serves as consistent back up coverage for specific areas.
  • Under the leadership of the Director, conducts employee relations specific orientation and in-service training for new and existing team members, completes regular quality assurance audits, and provides individual feedback. Assists with the development of work aids and internal resources.

Qualifications

Position requires Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field, and five (5) years’ experience with complex HR investigations and formal report documentation. Extensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws. Extensive experience and comfort with conflict resolution and complex HR investigations. Ability to synthesize and make appropriate decisions with large amounts of detailed information. Ability to build and sustain successful working relationships through trust, teamwork, and communication.

  • Successful ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver against frequent time-sensitive deadlines, proactively responding to time-sensitive matters.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or function in a team environment sharing responsibility, roles, and accountability.

  • Must be organized and have the ability to handle multiple priorities and responsibilities.

  • Leadership skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and electronic recordkeeping.
