What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Amazon Paid Media Specialist position at TYR Sport?
Position Summary
TYR Sport is seeking a Senior Amazon Paid Media Specialist to own end-to-end advertising strategy and execution across Amazon Seller Central and Vendor Central. TYR’s catalog spans swimwear and goggles (the core of the business), accessories and bags, and footwear — and this role is responsible for allocating paid media investment intelligently across that full portfolio, balancing TYR’s established swim authority with the growth priorities of newer categories like footwear. Spend decisions must be precisely aligned with inventory availability, full-price sell-through goals, and key commercial moments such as new style launches and restocks. The ideal candidate combines deep platform expertise with the analytical rigor to defend spend decisions to leadership and the operational discipline to execute flawlessly during high-stakes inventory events.
This is an individual-contributor role with full ownership of the Amazon advertising budget and reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, reflecting the strategic importance of the Amazon channel to TYR’s overall commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Strategy & Execution
- Build, launch, and continuously optimize Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display, and DSP campaigns across the full TYR catalog — swimwear and goggles, accessories and bags, and footwear
- Design campaign architecture — portfolio structure, ad group segmentation, match-type strategy — that scales cleanly as SKU count grows across all categories
- Own keyword and audience research, including competitive conquesting strategy against core swim competitors (Speedo, Arena) and footwear competitors (HOKA, On, NoBull)
- Manage day-to-day bid optimization, dayparting, and budget pacing across all active campaigns
- Build and maintain negative keyword lists and placement exclusions to protect spend efficiency
- Test and iterate on campaign structures (e.g., SKU-level vs. category-level grouping) to identify the most efficient scaling approach
Budget & Performance Management
- Own the full Amazon advertising budget; forecast spend by month and quarter and defend variance to leadership
- Set and report against ROAS, ACOS, TACOS, CPA, and incremental sales targets by category (swim, accessories/bags, footwear) and SKU tier
- Build and maintain a real-time performance dashboard (Amazon Ads Console Excel/Power BI) for weekly leadership reporting
- Conduct weekly spend reviews to catch underperforming campaigns before they erode margin
- Run quarterly deep-dive analyses identifying scaling opportunities and underinvested categories
- Reconcile ad spend against finance/budget actuals on a monthly basis
Inventory & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Partner directly with Planning and Merchandising to align ad spend with in-stock position across swim, accessories/bags, and footwear — including the current footwear out-of-stock-by-size tracking
- Build a pre-launch playbook for major inventory events (e.g., the July 9th footwear restock) covering pre-launch teaser campaigns, launch-day bid escalation, and post-launch optimization
- Flag inventory risk early when ad-driven demand threatens to outpace stock, and adjust pacing accordingly
- Prioritize ad spend toward full-price, high-margin SKUs across categories — core swim/goggle styles and footwear hero styles alike
- Coordinate with the sitewide sale calendar (e.g., July 2nd sitewide sale) to avoid wasted spend on promotional cannibalization
Content & Creative Collaboration
- Partner with Brand/Creative on Sponsored Brand creative, video ads, and Brand Store content testing
- Provide performance-based feedback on A content and listing quality to improve organic and paid conversion together
- Run structured A/B tests on ad creative, headlines, and landing pages (Brand Store vs. PDP)
Reporting & Strategic Communication
- Deliver weekly performance summaries and monthly deep-dive reports to the Chief Commercial Officer
- Translate platform-level data into business-language insights — margin impact, full-price recovery progress, competitive share
- Maintain a living competitive intelligence tracker on category positioning and CPC trends
- Present quarterly business reviews summarizing channel performance, key learnings, and forward strategy
Qualifications
Required
- 5 years managing Amazon Advertising, with direct experience in both Seller Central and Vendor Central
- Demonstrated ownership of advertising budgets of $500K annually
- Strong working knowledge of Amazon Marketing Cloud, Brand Analytics, and Search Query Performance reports
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, modeling); Power BI experience a plus
- Track record of improving ROAS/ACOS while scaling spend, not just cutting it
- Comfortable presenting data-driven recommendations directly to senior executives
Preferred
- Swimwear, goggles, performance/athletic, or footwear consumer goods category experience
- Experience supporting inventory-constrained or launch-driven advertising (limited-release drops, restocks)
- Familiarity with Helium 10, Jungle Scout, Northbeam or similar competitive intelligence tools
- Amazon Advertising certification
