ABOUT


A twelve-month faculty position responsible to the Dean, Nursing and Health Sciences and the professor/department chair, dental hygiene. The individual must be qualified to teach courses, coordinate learning activities, coordinate practicum experiences with area dental offices and promote program effectiveness.

Discipline- or Position-Specific Responsibilities/Competencies

Facilitating Classroom and Laboratory Instruction:

  • ·Provide engaging and effective instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings.
  • ·Prepare course manuals and laboratory manuals to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Administrative Duties:

  • ·Create and maintain program manuals and relevant documents.
  • ·Create and implement policies outlined in the TJC Certified Dental Assisting Student Handbook
  • ·Assist with maintaining student records (immunization, required training, course completion, etc.).
  • ·Coordinate and monitor student documentation in the online portal.
  • ·Evaluate and maintain accurate information for the college catalog, program website, admissions guidelines, and retention and completion records/reports.
  • ·Coordinate with the Dental Assisting National Board for students' testing.
  • ·Maintain reports of students' performance on the national board.
  • ·Facilitate and organize bi-monthly meetings with program faculty.
  • ·Participate in department chair meetings as designated by the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Curriculum Development:

  • ·Develop and coordinate curriculum to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
  • ·Collaborate with faculty to evaluate program curriculum and align it with program outcomes.
  • ·Utilize school committees, such as Curriculum and Instruction, to enhance program outcomes.

Accreditation Compliance:

  • ·Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and maintain necessary documentation.
  • ·Complete annual program surveys for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Facility Management:

  • ·Schedule and oversee the use of program facilities.
  • ·Coordinate faculty schedules and collaborate with dental hygiene for facility use.

Administrative Software Utilization:

  • ·Utilize college administrative software to assist with the creation and management of course schedules.
  • ·Collect, input, and synthesize program outcomes and report them in the college administrative software.

Budget Administration:

  • ·Prepare and administer budgets to support program needs.
  • ·Oversee clinic and laboratory program supplies.
  • ·Identify program needs in budget availability.

Personnel Supervision:

  • ·Recommend, schedule, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff.

Admission Criteria Determination:

  • ·Establish admission criteria and procedures for program entry.
  • ·Coordinate program applications and monitor the status of incoming applications.
  • ·Responsible for entering candidate information into the database, updating files, and contacting candidates for further information to complete each file.

Academic Advising Support:

  • ·Assist in academic advising of students to promote their academic success.

Student Recruitment:

  • ·Participate in recruitment and selection processes for new students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

1 Full-time and 2 Part-time employees

Work Environment: Ultrasonic sound, Indoor settings, Occasional work required outside regular business hours.

Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and repetitive typing. Requires prolonged verbal communication (in person and via phone) and regular use of standard office equipment.

Travel Required: Yes – 25% (Partner Dental Offices, TJC campuses, conferences, supply runs and professional development. )

If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.


WHO YOU ARE


Required Education, Experience, and Credentials/License.

  • ·Bachelor’s degree or higher AND
  • ·Dental Assisting National Board Certified Dental Assistant OR a dentist licensed to practice in Texas, with occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant AND
  • ·Must have had instruction in educational theory and methodology, e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation.
  • ·Three (3) additional years of occupational experience

Preferred Education & License

Master’s degree

Registered Dental Hygienist (in Texas)

Preferred Experience

1 year of teaching or higher education experience.
