Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring alignment with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in a variety of settings, including one-on-one, small groups, and within the general education classroom.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies based on students' unique learning profiles.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional methods and interventions as necessary to meet individual needs.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress, share insights, and develop coordinated approaches to instruction and support.
- Create and maintain a positive, nurturing, and structured classroom environment that encourages student engagement and fosters a love of learning.
- Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Advocate for students' needs within the school community and work collaboratively with other educators and support staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification or license in the state of Oregon, with endorsement in Special Education.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly those with diverse learning needs.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive school culture.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment for all students.
