Position Overview

A rapidly growing national advisory firm is expanding its Private Equity FP&A / Office of the CFO practice and is seeking experienced finance professionals at the Manager and Director levels.

This is not traditional transaction advisory or financial due diligence. The work begins primarily after an acquisition closes, when the team embeds with private equity-backed portfolio companies to help CFOs build, improve, and operate their finance functions.

Depending on the engagement, you may effectively serve as an extension of the portfolio company's FP&A leadership team—building forecasts and financial models, establishing management reporting and KPIs, improving planning processes, developing cash flow visibility, and communicating directly with CFOs and private equity sponsors.

Candidates may be based anywhere in the United States and work remotely when not traveling to clients. Approximately 20–30% travel should be expected.

What You'll Do

• Partner directly with CFOs, Controllers, executive leadership teams, and private equity sponsors at portfolio companies.
• Build and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts, long-range plans, and driver-based financial models.
• Develop sophisticated Excel models from scratch to support planning, forecasting, liquidity management, and strategic decision-making.
• Build and manage 13-week cash flow forecasts, working capital analyses, and liquidity reporting.
• Analyze actual results against budget and forecast and develop clear narratives explaining business performance.
• Design KPI frameworks, executive dashboards, and management reporting packages for organizations that may have limited existing FP&A infrastructure.
• Assess finance organizations and identify opportunities to improve the close, planning, forecasting, reporting, and decision-support processes.
• Step into interim or outsourced FP&A / Office of the CFO responsibilities when portfolio companies lack sufficient internal resources.
• Support debt and covenant modeling and other finance-related requirements associated with leveraged organizations.
• Translate strategic objectives into operating plans, financial targets, and actionable performance metrics.
• Present financial results, forecasts, risks, and recommendations to senior management, boards, and PE sponsors.
• Help portfolio companies establish scalable finance processes and eventually transition ownership to internal teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes through technology, automation, data analytics, and responsible use of AI.
• At the Associate Director level, contribute to client development, engagement expansion, and broader practice growth.
• Lead engagement teams while coaching and developing junior professionals.

What We're Looking For

Manager

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Approximately 5–6 years of progressive FP&A, corporate finance, or relevant advisory experience.
• Hands-on experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, management reporting, and financial analysis.

Director

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Approximately 9 years of progressive FP&A and/or consulting experience.
• Experience leading complex engagements, teams, and senior client relationships.
• Exposure to middle-market private equity-backed organizations strongly preferred.

For Both Levels

• Strong preference for professionals with a combination of consulting/advisory and hands-on corporate FP&A experience.
• Prior Big 4, accounting/advisory, PE portfolio operations, or Office of the CFO consulting experience is highly attractive.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build financial models from a blank workbook, rather than simply maintain existing templates.
• Strong understanding of the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.
• Experience with cash flow forecasting, liquidity, working capital, and management reporting.
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where finance processes may still need to be built.
• Executive-level communication and presentation skills.
• Experience within SaaS is particularly valuable; manufacturing and broader multi-industry experience are also attractive.
• Experience with Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, or similar analytics tools is a plus.
• Demonstrated comfort leveraging AI and automation tools to improve finance processes and productivity.
• MBA and/or CPA preferred but not required.
• Ability to travel approximately 20–30% nationally.

Ideal Background

A particularly strong profile may have started in Big 4 or financial advisory, transitioned into an operating-company FP&A/corporate finance position, and developed into a Manager or Director-level finance professional.

The key distinction is hands-on operational finance experience. Candidates should have personally built forecasts, budgets, models, reporting packages, and finance processes—not solely performed valuations, diligence, or transaction execution.

Compensation

Compensation will vary based on experience, geography, and level:

• Manager: $140K–$200K base bonus
• Director: $180K–$235K base bonus
