Job Description
Tulane University Libraries (TULL) will enter into a large-scale digitization partnership with Google Books, in which TUL is expected to provide more than 120,000 books to Google for digitization and then make them available for digital preservation in HathiTrust. The Operations Supervisor will serve as the primary contact between the library and Google and will lead a project team responsible for tasks including technical processing, barcoding, preparing books for shipment, and reshelving returned items. This role involves: Attending regularly scheduled meetings with Google and the library; inviting representatives from different library divisions to participate in meetings as appropriate; ensuring that core library responsibilities (such as technical processing, barcoding, and preparing books for shipment) are completed; managing schedules for book pickups and deliveries; adjusting delivery schedules as needed; and collaborating with Google’s Library Partner Manager, Scanning Center Manager, and Operations/Logistics Specialists to address project-related issues as they arise. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Collections Management, this position will coordinate activities and communications with an internal Google Books Advisory Group and TUL’s technical contact for the project. The incumbent will also supervise and oversee the work of a second staff member dedicated to this project and brings in additional support from the Library Annex & Special Projects unit, the Stacks Management department, and student workers as needed. This is a multi-year project, and upon its completion, this position will become part of the Library Annex & Special Projects unit in Collections Management, working on similar ongoing projects.

Responsibilities
- Ability to plan and coordinate projects
- Ability to lead others in a team, and act as an effective supervisor
- Experience working with computer applications, including Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Word, and library systems such as Ex Libris Alma
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to take direction, work independently, and work under deadline
- Flexibility; ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
- Willingness to seek assistance with difficult situations
- Ability to pull library materials from the shelves, reshelve library materials, lift up to 30 pounds, and push book trucks
- Ability to meet Level 1 Core Technology Competencies as defined here: Core Technology Competencies for Tulane Libraries Employees
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 2 years relevant library experience
- A valid driver's license
- Prior project experience
- Familiarity with and enthusiasm for digitization projects in libraries
