Trueline's client, a nationally recognized design-build construction organization with an employee-owned culture and a diverse portfolio of projects across the United States, is seeking a Project Engineer (PE/SE) to join their team in Morton, Illinois. Hybrid flexibility may be considered. This is an opportunity for an experienced structural engineer to focus on engineering excellence, code compliance, and technical leadership while supporting projects across multiple industries without the pressures of business development or client acquisition.
What You'll Do as the Project Engineer (PE/SE):
- Review and approve structural building plans for permitting and construction
- Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations for a variety of building types
- Certify and seal engineering documents as a licensed Professional Engineer
- Evaluate structural systems including wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and foundations
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and design standards
- Serve as an internal technical resource on code interpretation and compliance matters
- Mentor Engineers-in-Training (EITs), designers, and drafting personnel
- Collaborate with estimating, manufacturing, construction, and design teams to develop practical engineering solutions
- Support project planning and design efforts throughout the project lifecycle
- Assist with complex engineering challenges and technical problem-solving
Must-Haves as the Project Engineer (PE/SE):
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Ability to independently certify and seal structural building plans
- Strong background in structural building design
- Experience designing and analyzing wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation systems
- Thorough understanding of building codes and regulatory requirements
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience providing technical guidance to junior staff and project teams
Nice-to-Haves as the Project Engineer (PE/SE):
- Structural Engineer (SE) license
- Multi-state licensure or experience obtaining reciprocal licenses
- Experience supporting projects in multiple jurisdictions nationwide
- Background in post-frame construction
- Experience within an architectural/engineering consulting environment
- Previous involvement reviewing and approving plans for a wide range of building types
