Position Summary
The Bind Underwriter is responsible for developing and managing a profitable book of commercial casualty and property business written through wholesale producers with binding authority. This role requires strong technical underwriting skills, relationship management, and the ability to support producers using a proprietary underwriting platform. The underwriter will evaluate referred risks, monitor portfolio performance, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines while contributing to growth and profitability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a profitable book of commercial casualty and property business written through wholesale producers with binding authority
- Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned producers to generate high-quality business flow and ensure alignment with underwriting appetite
- Guide producers in using the company’s proprietary underwriting platform and understanding embedded guidelines to improve risk selection and quoting accuracy
- Evaluate pricing, coverage terms, and risk characteristics on referred submissions using internal tools, predictive analytics, and underwriting standards
- Monitor new and renewal business performance, taking appropriate actions on pricing, terms, non-renewals, or coverage adjustments to maintain profitability
- Communicate proactively with producers regarding renewals, changes in terms, or non-renewal decisions to support retention and transparency
- Review premium audits to assess changes in insured operations or exposures and recommend appropriate adjustments
- Stay informed on industry trends, competitor activity, claims developments, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting strategy or risk appetite
- Serve as a subject matter expert for specific classes of business within the binding authority portfolio
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, state regulations, and contractual obligations, consulting with compliance or leadership as needed
- Provide feedback on market conditions, competitor products, and producer performance to support product development and marketing strategy
- Collaborate with team members and leadership on underwriting decisions, referrals, and portfolio management
- Mentor and support less experienced underwriters and underwriting assistants, contributing to team development and knowledge sharing
- Represent the company at industry events, producer meetings, and training sessions to strengthen market presence and producer engagement
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation in underwriting systems and CRM platforms
- Perform other duties as assigned to support underwriting operations and business objectives
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum 4 to 9 years of commercial bind casualty and property underwriting
- Preferred location is Alpharetta, Georgia with a hybrid schedule (minimum three days per week in office)
- Bachelor’s degree required; coursework in Risk Management or Insurance preferred
- CPCU or other relevant insurance certifications are a plus
- Strong knowledge of commercial casualty and property binding business, classifications, pricing, and coverage options
- Familiarity with the wholesale producer and binding authority model
- Capable of managing a diverse book of business and making informed risk selection decisions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong relationship-building capabilities
- Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proven team player with a proactive and energetic approach
- Comfortable using underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office tools
Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
