Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant – Trends supports the daily financial management, reporting, and accounting operations for Trends Brick & Mortar and Trends Digital Operations. This role ensures the accuracy and timely completion of monthly financial cycles, follows consistent department workflows, and coordinates closely with accounting colleagues and team peers. The Staff Accountant serves as a practical, execution-focused team member, preparing accurate financial data to support the Accounting Manager, Controller, and the Trends leadership team.

General Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations & Reporting

·        Execute daily accounting functions and general ledger (GL) maintenance

·        Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.

·        Assist in preparing accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow).

·        Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost reduction.

·        Follow established accounting procedures and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce risk, and support organizational growth.

·        Assist in compiling baseline historical financial figures and template inputs to support the annual budgeting process.

·        Complete ad hoc reporting for various members of management

Compliance & Audit

• Apply accounting policies and financial transactions in strict compliance with GAAP and relevant legal/tax regulations.
• Follow internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate risk.

Prepare documentation and pull financial schedules to support the annual financial statement audit.

Teamwork and Collaboration

• Collaborate with accounting staff by sharing daily task updates and supporting peer workflows.
• Take ownership of delegated tasks while meeting accuracy and timing benchmarks set by management.

Skills and Abilities:

·        Strong knowledge of general accounting principles.

·        Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

·        Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.

·        Ability to interpret financial data and communicate complex information to non-financial stakeholders.

·        Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

·        Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.

·        Ability to manage multiple priorities across several business entities while meeting deadlines.

·        High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.

Education/Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and 2 years professional experience.

·        Experience with cash management and financial reporting is required.

·        Intermediate Microsoft Office experience, specifically with Excel.

Physical Requirements:

·        This role requires communication effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.

·        This role requires navigation of multiple screens for several hours a time.

·        This role requires observing and comprehending various data and communications.
