What are the responsibilities and job description for the Power System Engineer position at TRC Talent Solutions?
TRC is partnered with a technically elite power engineering group that focuses on the analysis side of the grid—where modeling, studies, and system behavior drive critical decisions. This is a role for engineers who want to get deep into system performance, fault scenarios, and protection coordination without being stuck purely in field execution.
The Opportunity:
Our client is seeking a Power Systems Study Engineer to perform detailed electrical system analysis for industrial facilities, utilities, and mission-critical environments. You’ll build and analyze system models that directly influence design, safety, and operational decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Perform short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies using ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower
- Develop and maintain detailed electrical system models
- Analyze system behavior under fault and contingency scenarios
- Generate reports with recommendations for system improvements and compliance
- Support relay coordination and protection scheme validation
- Conduct site visits to collect field data and verify system configurations
- Collaborate with design engineers and clients on system upgrades and modifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 3–8 years of power systems analysis experience
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower
- Strong understanding of power distribution systems and protective coordination
- Experience performing arc flash and short circuit studies (NFPA 70E familiarity)
- Ability to interpret single-line diagrams and system data
Nice to Have:
- PE license or working toward licensure
- Experience with utility-scale or large industrial systems
- Familiarity with NERC/IEEE standards
