Job Description
The Technical Writer - II at the Potomac River Test Range (PRTR) writes, edits, creates and coordinates with the development of technical reports, memorandums, presentations, brochures, test procedures, standard operating procedures, technical manuals, etc., for internal documentation, customer reference, or publication.
Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related field is desired
- At least two (2) years of experience revising or writing material that is mostly standardized for Test Plans, Test Reports, Risk Hazard Assessments, and Safety Procedures
- Strong technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and accurate technical documents
- Thorough understanding of general document formatting and layout principles (i.e. Word, PDF, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to research and synthesize information from various sources
- Familiarity with technical writing style guides and terminology
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with engineers and other technical staff
- Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in all documents and adherence to configuration management requirements
- Working knowledge of document configuration management principles and practices, including version control systems (e.g., SharePoint, Git, Subversion) and document management workflows
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Prior experience in a technical writing or editing role within a T&E environment
- Familiarity with document management systems used by the military or government agencies
Physical Qualifications
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment- Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
- Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time
- Must be capable of lifting 25 lbs. unassisted

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Must be able to successfully complete a background check
- Must possess or be able to obtain an interim security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment
