Mechanical Engineer IV
Location: Houston, TX
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Work Model: Hybrid (In Office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | Remote: Wednesday, Friday)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer IV to support the development and execution of major facility and compression station projects. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in the design and engineering of large horsepower (10,000–30,000 HP) turbine-driven and electric motor-driven centrifugal compressor stations, along with a strong background in industrial facility systems.
This role will be responsible for overseeing project scope development, engineering design execution, cost estimating, scheduling, risk management, and technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, vendors, and construction teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Project Development
- Lead the development of project scope, schedules, capital cost estimates, execution plans, risk assessments, and supporting technical documentation for assigned facility projects.
- Ensure all facilities are designed in compliance with regulatory requirements, industry codes, standards, and corporate engineering practices.
- Manage engineering design activities performed by third-party engineering firms, ensuring deliverables are completed within approved budgets and schedules.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, calculations, and material listing documents.
- Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into future facility designs and engineering practices.
Technical Leadership & Equipment Engineering
- Evaluate vendor quotations and prepare technical bid evaluations.
- Recommend equipment selections based on technical merit, cost, reliability, and delivery schedules.
- Provide technical expertise for major equipment including:
- Turbine and compressor packages
- Electric motor-driven compression systems
- Pressure vessels
- Buildings and auxiliary systems
- Piping systems
- Valves and fittings
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
- Support departmental initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide engineering support during construction, startup, commissioning, and operational handover activities.
- Participate in field reviews, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues during project execution.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and operations personnel to ensure successful project delivery.
Stakeholder & Compliance Management
- Ensure project scope definitions comply with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate effectively with internal functional groups, consultants, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Communicate technical issues, project risks, and impacts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support cross-functional project teams to ensure alignment and successful execution.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible engineering and project management experience.
- Experience designing large horsepower (10,000–30,000 HP) turbine-driven and electric motor-driven centrifugal compressor stations.
- Experience with industrial facility systems and capital project execution.
- Strong knowledge of engineering design standards, equipment specifications, and project development processes.
Preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) designation.
- Experience managing engineering consultants and third-party design firms.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, initiate improvements, and manage change effectively.
