Engineer Technical Analyst
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite) (Local Candidate Only)
Duration: Until Jun 2027 (with a possibility of extension)
Schedule: Monday–Friday Onsite or 4x10 Schedule
Travel: Occasional travel to Jackson, MI (Mileage Reimbursement Provided)
Overview:
We are seeking an Engineer Technical Analyst to support the Grid Management Operations team responsible for maintaining outage and hazard data accuracy within the Outage Management System (OMS). This role will focus on data quality analysis, outage event validation, OMS corrections, and operational support for electric grid dispatch and control center activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with dispatch operators, quality engineers, and field operations teams to ensure outage information, hazard reporting, and asset data are accurate and properly documented. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and validate outage and hazard-related data within the OMS platform.
- Review outage events and perform data corrections to ensure reporting accuracy.
- Verify outage start/stop times, asset information, dispatch activities, and event documentation.
- Support data quality initiatives and outage correction efforts.
- Assist dispatch and control center personnel with operational data management.
- Investigate discrepancies and make informed decisions regarding outage records.
- Support storm restoration activities and emergency response operations.
- Review technical maps, schematics, and system information to validate outage impacts.
- Perform administrative and reporting tasks related to outage management processes.
- Collaborate with field crews, dispatch operators, quality engineers, and operational stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with utility operational procedures.
Training Program
- Week 1: Online eLearning and system-based training.
- Weeks 2–4: Job shadowing dispatch operators and learning OMS navigation.
- Week 5: Hands-on outage quality review and correction activities with Quality Engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program preferred. OR
- Associate Degree with 2 years of relevant technical experience. OR
- High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant technical experience.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2 years of technical or operational experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working with data quality, data validation, or operational reporting.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and critical-thinking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams, schematics, or technical drawings.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility industry experience.
- Dispatch, coordination, or emergency management experience.
- Experience supporting electric, gas, telecommunications, cable, or similar infrastructure operations.
- Construction technology, engineering technology, drafting, or technical field experience.

- Experience with electric utility companies such as DTE Energy or similar organizations.
