About the Role
The Financial Analyst – Project Controls supports the financial and operational performance of elevated water tower construction projects by managing project budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, financial reporting, and performance analysis. This role partners closely with project management, field operations, estimating, and accounting teams to improve cost control, project profitability, and operational efficiency across long-duration construction projects.
Location: Avon, Indiana, United States (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Monitor project budgets, commitments, actual costs, and financial forecasts.
- Track project costs across engineering, fabrication, coating, and field erection phases.
- Support project budgeting and establish baseline cost structures.
- Analyze project financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor estimated costs to completion and project profitability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project financial performance.
Cost Analysis & Reporting
- Perform cost-benefit analyses to support business decisions.
- Prepare weekly and monthly project cost reports.
- Analyze project completion percentages against costs incurred.
- Develop variance analyses and identify cost deviations.
- Prepare financial reports for project stakeholders and leadership.
- Monitor project margins and recommend improvement opportunities.
Project Controls & Performance Monitoring
- Track key project cost drivers, including labor, materials, equipment, coatings, subcontractors, and subsistence.
- Monitor project schedules and resource allocation.
- Identify financial and operational risks, including weather delays and productivity challenges.
- Analyze labor productivity across shop and field operations.
- Evaluate project performance against established objectives.
- Support effective project control methodologies.
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to improve project visibility.
- Enhance project control systems and financial reporting processes.
- Analyze departmental overhead costs and spending trends.
- Review company credit card transactions for policy compliance and anomalies.
- Support automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with additional financial analysis projects as assigned.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with estimating, project management, accounting, and field operations teams.
- Present project financial status updates to stakeholders.
- Support strategic decision-making through financial insights.
- Communicate project risks and recommendations effectively.
- Maintain strong working relationships across departments.
- Ensure accurate financial information supports operational success.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Construction Management.
- Two to five years of relevant financial analysis experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP and job costing systems.
- Strong financial analysis and forecasting abilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction, structural steel, or industrial project environments.
- Experience using Sage 100 ERP.
