About the Opportunity
This is not your average HR Generalist role. This is a seat at the table.
A nationally recognized, woman-owned architecture and interior design firm, an Inc. 5000 honoree with a legacy of designing spaces that elevate communities, advance healthcare, shape education, and inspire worship, is looking for a People & Culture professional who is as passionate about the employee experience as the firm is about design excellence.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the HR Generalist will serve as the operational backbone of the People & Culture function. This is a highly visible, high-trust role for someone who thrives in a collaborative, design-forward environment and understands that great HR is not just about compliance, it is about creating the conditions for great people to do their best work.
If you are organized, discreet, people-centered, and ready to own your function in a firm that is growing with intention, this opportunity was built for you.
What You Will Do
HR Operations and Administration
The HR Generalist will own the day-to-day execution of HR processes across the firm. This includes maintaining accurate employee personnel files and HR documentation, administering employee data within the firm's HRIS, conducting periodic compliance audits, and supporting the ongoing maintenance of HR policies and the employee handbook. Confidentiality and professionalism are non-negotiable in this role.
Recruiting Coordination
Working in close partnership with the firm's external recruiting partners, the HR Generalist will coordinate recruiting activities, assist with resume review and candidate screening, draft and post job descriptions, schedule interviews, and support the preparation and distribution of approved employment offers. This role is the connective tissue between the hiring team and the candidate experience.
Onboarding, Offboarding, and Employee Experience
From the moment a new hire accepts their offer to their first day and beyond, the HR Generalist ensures a seamless, welcoming experience. This includes coordinating all onboarding documentation, scheduling, and orientation activities, ensuring workstations and system access are ready on day one, and continuously improving the firm's onboarding processes. On the offboarding side, the HR Generalist will conduct exit interviews and manage separation documentation in full compliance with applicable regulations.
Benefits Administration and Open Enrollment
This role serves as the primary liaison with the firm's insurance brokers and benefits partners. Responsibilities include supporting the annual benefits renewal and platform setup, leading Open Enrollment (including employee education materials and Q&A sessions), managing Qualifying Life Events, conducting monthly billing audits to ensure enrollment accuracy, and administering FMLA, disability claims, and state-mandated leaves in coordination with payroll. The HR Generalist will also coordinate administration of the company 401(k) plan and serve as an advocate for employees navigating claims or coverage issues.
Performance Management Support
The HR Generalist will coordinate the scheduling and tracking of performance reviews, maintain documentation in the HRIS, provide timely reminders to managers, and support leadership with performance documentation and employee development tracking. Keeping the review cycle running smoothly and on time is a direct contribution to the firm's culture of accountability and growth.
Employee Relations and Culture
Serving as a trusted resource for employees on HR policies and procedures, the HR Generalist will support employee engagement initiatives, assist with internal HR communications, and help maintain a professional, inclusive, and high-performing workplace environment. Complex or sensitive matters are escalated appropriately to the COO or the firm's HR advisory partner.
