Job Title:         Engineer Quality II

Client:              Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Duration:         1 Year – Possible Extension
Location:         Waterloo, IA 50703
Shift:                1st Shift | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite

 

Description:

Job Summary

Support quality planning, control, and continuous improvement for drivetrain component manufacturing. The role focuses on production issue resolution, quality initiatives, customer warranty improvement, structured problem-solving, and maintaining product quality to customer expectations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead drivetrain component manufacturing issue resolution in a fast-paced shop-floor environment.
  • Drive quality improvements through QIT, PFMEA, DPQ, Six Sigma, and Smart Connected Factory initiatives.
  • Plan, organize, and execute quality initiatives and lead cross-functional projects.
  • Use structured problem-solving and statistical methods to resolve complex manufacturing issues.
  • Develop, implement, and update Control Plans.
  • Apply quality tools including FMEA, SPC, Root Cause Analysis, Gauge R&R, MSA, and Capability Studies.
  • Perform advanced data gathering and statistical analysis.
  • Lead closed-loop corrective actions using rigorous root cause analysis.
  • Read and interpret complex part drawings and apply GD&T principles.
  • Support engineering standards, specifications, testing, validation, and process improvements.
  • Support manufacturing process and equipment improvements while considering cost, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors as required.
  • Identify process/system gaps and support change-management activities.
  • Support product development, customer needs analysis, and engineering activities.
  • Work within established project management plans to achieve quality goals.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with standard quality management principles and tools.
  • Experience with FMEA, SPC, Root Cause Analysis, Control Plans, Gauge R&R, MSA, and Capability Studies.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering/part drawings.
  • Functional knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and advanced data-gathering techniques.
  • Experience driving closed-loop corrective action processes.
  • Experience with gear or shaft manufacturing standards, processes, and controls.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, analytical, and project coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering testing, implementation, technical operations, risk management, and quality reporting.

 

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Project management experience, including leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau, or Minitab.
  • ASQ certifications such as CQE, CSSGB, or CSSBB.
  • Drivetrain Components shop-floor experience.

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering, or a similar discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Shop-floor position in a manufacturing environment.
  • Approximately 75% of the time on your feet within the factory.
  • Must be comfortable working in a shop-floor environment.
  • Metatarsal safety boots required on the first day.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Business casual dress code.
  • Interview preference: Microsoft Teams.
