Job Summary
The Assistant Program Director / Director of Clinical Education (DCE) will play a vital leadership role within the Physician Assistant (PA) Program. In addition to supporting the Program Director with the overall administration and management of the program, this individual will have primary responsibility for oversight of the clinical phase of the curriculum. This includes developing, coordinating, and evaluating clinical rotations, building and maintaining strong relationships with clinical sites and preceptors, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and supporting students throughout their clinical education.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership (Assistant Program Director Duties):
- Assist the Program Director in the ongoing planning, implementation, and evaluation of the PA program.
- Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation to ensure compliance with ARC-PA Standards.
- Participate in the accreditation process, including self-study, data collection, and reporting.
- Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor to PA students.
- Teach and assess students in both didactic and clinical phases of the curriculum.
- Assist with faculty recruitment, onboarding, and professional development.
- Contribute to admissions, student progression, remediation, and program committees as assigned.
Clinical Education Oversight (Director of Clinical Education Duties):
- Develop, secure, and maintain high-quality clinical rotation sites and preceptors across core and elective specialties.
- Ensure clinical sites meet program expectations and accreditation standards for student learning experiences.
- Coordinate student placement, scheduling, and monitoring of clinical rotations.
- Serve as primary liaison between the program and clinical preceptors, maintaining strong communication and collaborative partnerships.
- Conduct site visits, evaluate clinical learning environments, and support preceptor development.
- Oversee assessment of student performance during the clinical phase, including preceptor evaluations and end-of-rotation assessments.
- Identify students experiencing difficulties in the clinical phase and implement appropriate support and remediation.
- Track and ensure compliance with all clinical requirements, including immunizations, background checks, drug screening, and site-specific onboarding processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure as a PA in [state].
- Master’s degree required (Doctoral degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical practice experience.
- Prior teaching and/or administrative experience in PA education strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of ARC-PA accreditation standards and the accreditation process.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in clinical site development and management.
- Experience with program assessment, curriculum design, and student evaluation.
- Involvement with professional organizations (e.g., PAEA, AAPA).

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Clinical Position Requirements
