Job Summary
The College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a full-time, open rank, tenure-track faculty position. The rank offered (assistant, associate, or full professor) will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience in special education, specifically focusing on educational diagnostician.
The position will begin in January 2026. This is a nine-month, on-campus, academic appointment with additional summer support and responsibilities. The priority application deadline is Monday, September 1st, 2025, but applications will be reviewed immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Pursue an active scholarly research agenda.
- Teach graduate courses in special education.
- Design courses with new educational diagnostician protocols.
- Seek grant funding to support research and teaching activities.
- Actively support local area schools.
- Provide service to the field and profession at the local, state, and national levels.
- Contribute to the university, the East Texas community, and the profession through service and outreach activities.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in Special Education
- Educational Diagnostician in Texas
- Evidence of ability to conduct a focused and sustained research agenda.
- Minimum of three (3) years PK-12 teaching experience.
- Ability to collaborate with Education faculty in SOE for research and pursuit of external funding.
- Evidence of preparation to teach courses related to special education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of scholarship as measured by peer-reviewed products.
- Evidence of successful university teaching in courses targeted for educators.
- Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
- Expertise in special education.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
