An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award.
Job Purpose
Demonstrated interest in working on behalf of children and youth. Commitment to working with marginalized communities and working towards a more just and equitable legal system. This position offers experience in Kinship Guardianship, Emancipation, Child Custody, Child Support, Name Changes, Declaratory Judgments, and Adoptions by assisting attorneys with legal research, document drafting, case preparation, and client interaction.
Duties and responsibilities
NOTE: This is a paid internship with pay at $23 an hour with flexible hours during the summer months; however, keep in mind that our office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You may be required to participate in some Friday hearings
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications Qualifications

- Assist with case preparation in matters involving children, youth, and guardians in various court proceedings.
- Draft legal documents including petitions, motions, and final orders under attorney supervision.
- Conduct legal research on various legal issues.
- Promote policies that affect children's law.
- Observe client meetings and contribute to client communication.
- Collaborate with other Pegasus staff teams as needed and participate in Pegasus-wide meetings.

- Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) program, with at least one year of law school completed.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in youth and family law.
